THIS WEEK'S SHOW:  We mark the 50th anniversary of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE-- from the archive!

From 2014:  Actors Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader went into darker territory as a pair of estranged suicidal twins who reunite and discover that sticking together no matter what could help fix their relationship in the wryly-comic drama THE SKELETON TWINS, and they-- along with director/co-writer Craig Johnson-- joined us to talk about it.  

From 2020:  A sweet and lonely driving instructor in Ireland reluctantly employs her supernatural abilities to save a young girl being used by a washed-up rock star in a Satanic pact for fame. Got that? The movie is EXTRA ORDINARY, and with us is the "rock star" himself, actor Will Forte (NEBRASKA, LAST MAN ON EARTH)!  

From 2017:  Brigsby Bear Adventures is a children's TV show produced for an audience of one: James. When the show abruptly ends, James's life changes forever, and he sets out to make a movie of the only TV show he has ever known. Director Dave McCary and actor/co-writer Kyle Mooney (Y2K) open the door on their quirky tale, BRIGSBY BEAR.

While revisiting his hometown in France to attend his former boss's funeral and staying with the widow, a man finds himself responsible for a murder, which he tries to conceal with the help of the village priest, who will provide him with an alibi... for a price. The thriller/mystery/dark comedy MISIRICORDIA is on discussion this week, with its writer/director Alain Guiraudie.

From 2019:  DOLEMITE IS MY NAME tells the story of Rudy Ray Moore: comic, rap artist and one of the stars of the 1970s cinema phenomenon known as Blaxploitation, via his iconic badass pimp Dolemite. The film's costume designer Ruth E. Carter [BLACK PANTHER] speaks on the obligation to be faithful to a period, balancing studio and indie work and what it's like to fit a star.

THE TALLEST DWARF is filmmaker Julie Wyman's quest to find her place within the little people (LP) community after hearing she has inherited "partial dwarfism." She joins forces with a group of dwarf artists to create art in the form of films, poetry and dance to challenge and address the rise of height-altering pharmaceuticals. Muriel and her husband Lee (newly returned from the Korean War) are beginning a new life in San Diego, which is upended by the arrival of Lee's charismatic younger brother, Julius. Lee is keen for the three of them to build a new life together, but Julius leaves for Las Vegas instead, where he meets Henry, a male co-worker. While the two men begin a secret romantic relationship, Muriel embarks on a secret life of her own. The film is ON SWIFT HORSES and we're joined by director Daniel Minahan.

80-year-old African American chaplain Betty Clark and white Jewish physician Jessica Zitter are on-staff at an Oakland, CA hospital's Palliative Care Unit-- professions that rarely intersect. THE CHAPLAIN AND THE DOCTOR documents their work as they endeavor to bring curiosity, connection and compassion to a broken medical culture-- and one that recognizes the diverse backgrounds of their patients. Jessica Zitter is also the film's director, and we sit down with both women ahead of its screening at the 68th San Francisco International Film Festival.
