This is a recording of David Bassiouni (Chairman & CEO of New York-based The Bassiouni Group; Former Senior UN Staff, South Sudan Regional Minister of Agriculture & Natural Resources) on Towards Nationhood: The Challenges and Opportunities for Achieving Unity and Nationhood in South Sudan. The recording also includes audience questions.

This presentation is one of several contributing to a one-day conference on the theme of ‘Ecological Impacts of Proposed Jonglei Canal, National Identity Crisis, Communal Conflicts and the Peace in South Sudan’. The conference was convened on Saturday 5th November 2022 at St Antony's College, University of Oxford and was organised by The Sudanese Programme in collaboration with the South Sudanese community (UK) and the Middle East Centre, St Antony's College.

Dr Ahmed Al-Shahi and Dr Richard Barltrop (Trustees of The Sudanese Programme) chaired the conference.

We are grateful to all conference participants (speakers and audience) who kindly gave their approval for their contributions to be included - everyone was given the option not to be included and to let the programme organisers know if they preferred to opt out.
