This is a demo of the Intellijel/Cylonix Shapeshifter digital oscillator. Here, I am using it alone (no other modules!), patched into itself. I have oscillator 2 in LFO mode, modulating the Ratio, MOD B, and Shape 2 inputs. The Shapeshifter is set to "Perc Mode," and the Pulse output is plugged into the Sync input. I ended up recording about 40 minutes worth of sounds, so here are some of my favorite sections. I tried to make the crossfades obvious, so that you can hear the separate sections.

𝙼𝚘𝚍𝚞𝚕𝚊𝚛 𝙿𝚘𝚍𝚌𝚊𝚜𝚝 𝟶𝟶𝟷 𝚠/ 𝙹𝚊𝚔𝚘𝙹𝚊𝚔𝚘

This is a ‘performance’ of Erik Satie’s minimalist composition 'Vexations' using VCV Rack: a eurorack synthesis emulator program. 'Vexations' is considered by some to be unplayable, with its full performance typically using a team of performers taking shifts over the course of several hours. Listening to the piece in full is an endurance effort in itself, with some who have experienced it in full describing it as a surreal, haunted experience. I took the score of 'Vexations' and have VCV Rack play it on end, extending the length of the piece potentially indefinitely, with each repeat of the theme having undergone timbral and temporal mutations so what was once a piece based on constant repetition can become an exercise in constant evolution and randomness. I used MIDI files to generate source voltages and the available modulation to make the sounds generated constantly evolve.

It’s dark, chaotic, difficult & confusing… at the same time, searching for some positive answers.

I named this track
“Patience, Ikiru(to Live in Japanese)”

Some of you might know the word “Ikiru” from Akira Kurosawa movie…
