As life offers its unique ups and downs a simple hug, hand on the shoulder or understanding voice can bring the richest assurance and comfort. Similarly, a song can share solace and the knowing that one is not alone in any experience.

Canadian singer songwriter FRANCINE HONEY, an Ontario hailing songstress who is as much a storyteller as a musical artist sharing ‘tales’ crafted in intimacy and personal experience. In many ways her songs are moments in a healing process for creator and listener, new companions which are equally inspiring and up-lifting.

An internationally acclaimed songwriter, Francine is as adept a bilingual artist and vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and music and video producer with this year alone being awarded the 2023 Songwriter of the Year award by the Austin Songwriter Group International and winning in the Blues, Folk/Americana, Love Songs and Inspirational categories.

Growing up, Francine embraced a rich variety of music from traditional country to heavy rock and similarly widely ranging artists. It is this variety which she equally embraces in her sound which enjoys the rich essences of genres such as Americana, alt-country, folk, and blues. It makes for an adventurous proposition potently echoed in the new single, ‘Come Sit In My Chair’.

The first track in her aim to release a song a month starting June 9th, ‘Come Sit In My Chair’ is inspired by and pays homage to the small-town barber, of which her father was an enormously revered one. Francine reflects on a hair stylist’s prowess ability to listen to one’s intimate thoughts and feelings in that unique one to one moment while cutting their hair, “It’s the bond, the understanding, and  the shared experiences that make each appointment a transformative journey”, something she witnessed so many times in her father’s salon.

Recorded with some of Nashville’s finest musicians and produced by Grammy-nominated Neilson Hubbard and accompanied by a video reflecting the track’s visual dexterity, ‘Come Sit In My Chair’ is an uplifting and infectious incitement with a soothing contemplation much as the emotive experience of having one’s hair styled into something different and fresh. Cured in traditional country but with a pop catchiness to its gentle swing, the song epitomizes the creative heart of Francine’s songwriting and similarly her voice which, much as one returns to one’s hair stylist again and again, more than coaxes regular attention to Francine Honey’s music.

Rockets In My Boots, Volume II is Francine Honey’s journey through life's messy middle ground, overcoming personal demons, and self-rebuilding. The deeply personal lyrics and rich storytelling promise a moving and relatable experience.

The album opens with “Come Down,” a cinematic track calling listeners to explore deeper layers within themselves. The ethereal moonscape and water imagery serve as a metaphor for self-examination. Honey sings, "Cleanse my sins or drink me in, I need to know why the river chose me," echoing themes of destiny, faith, and salvation. Honey states, “This album is about the mess my life was, the struggle, and the un-doing of myself.”

“I Wish” deals with being blind-sided when her husband left due to mental illness. Moving forward as a single parent, the song tells of struggles and the lament that you can’t change the past. Yet, a parent’s wish is that “Mammas Take Bad Dreams Away.”

Honey's biggest joy in life is being a mother. This leads into "Space," where she ponders, "Should I turn left or right? What of the dreams I have at night?" As a busy working mother, Honey realized she needed time for herself and started a gratitude journal, giving herself "Space to see" and "Space to be."

"Snowflakes on my Eyelashes" reflects signs received from above, affirming we aren't alone. Despite wearing glasses, two snowflakes landed on her eyelashes while visiting her Grandmother's grave, which she believes are "kisses from you falling from heaven." Her mentor, Beth Nielsen Chapman, sings background vocals on the track.

The lead single, “Inside Out,” delves into Honey's battle with body image and feeling "enough." It segues into “Let the Wind,” a decade-long project addressing her personal journey of faith and forgiveness, featuring Crystal singing bowls for healing. “I Carry On,” co-written with Robert Gray, celebrates resilience and gratitude for life's supporters. “It seemed as though, when I had only $3.17 in the bank, a cheque or work bonus would appear," Honey says.

Love remained elusive for Honey. Despite rebuilding her life, her search for “The Perfect Man” was again found only in her dreams. Relationships often revealed her kindness was exploited, lamented in "Gravy Train."

Honey eventually gave up on love, went on a “man diet,” and focused on her music. She reconnected with friends and family, as reflected in the next three tracks. In "One Big Party," Honey finds joy in reconnecting with old friends. Written with Fabio Ingratta, "What Really Counts" highlights her rediscovering childlike fun. Her girlfriends remained a constant support, celebrated in "Girls' Weekend," written with Patti Dixon.

The final track, "Unfinished Business," inspired by Francine's dream of timeless love in a mystical canyon, extends from the past into the future. For Honey, this enduring love must wait until "Another lifetime may come along," ending with a unique soundscape, leaving listeners to wonder about the future of the Rockets in My Boots Trilogy. Honey’s life story in song took 6 years and 9 live-off-the-floor recording sessions in Nashville, Tennessee, with Grammy-nominated Producer Neilson Hubbard at Skinny Elephant Recording Studios.

Not many people love Christmas as much as I do. It’s always bittersweet when it’s time to put the tree away—in fact, I didn't manage it until April this year! I spend July watching Christmas movies, with my studio tree still shining. When Gabriel and I met up for one of our writing sessions, I told him it was Christmas in July at my place. We talked about all the things we love about Christmas and how we can hardly wait for it to arrive. That conversation inspired us to write about everything we love about this magical time, especially the feeling of going home for the holidays.
There's nothing quite like anticipating the aromas filling the house at Christmas and being surrounded by family and friends. Whether you have a snowy Christmas like I’ve always known, or a green one down in Texas, “Christmas, What Took You So Long?” captures the excitement of heading home with a catchy chorus and a happy melody.

Recorded live at Gabriel Rhodes' Lampwick Studios in Austin, Texas, we had a blast bringing this song to life with Chris Doege on drums, Matt Slagle on bass, and Gabriel on guitar, piano, and bells. We had quite the collection of jingle bells to choose from, so naturally, we used them all—layering at least five different types into the track for some added fun! You'll hear Gabriel singing along too, adding his special vocal spark to the track.

The song's chorus, 
"I'm on my way back home, I've been there in my mind, 
The sweet smell of the pine, cinnamon and cloves,"
conjures the nostalgic aromas and feelings we all cherish. 

Picture yourself cozy in your favorite red sweater—or maybe last year's "winning" ugly sweater—mingling around the tree, filled with laughter and love.

Tune in and turn this up while you wrap presents by the fire, with a little bounce in your step. It’s a celebration the Christmas is on it's way. Have fun, dance and it's ok to giggle as you debate who wore the most "festively challenged" attire.

My songwriting adventure with Gabriel began after I won the Austin Songwriter's Group International Songwriter of the Year Award. After completing my album, Rockets In My Boots, we dove into writing new songs, leading to the creation of "Christmas, What Took You So Long?"
