The formula is deceptively simple. Bass, drums, and the truth. Brooklyn heavy indie duo Gardenia formed in the backroom of a rundown recording studio, where singer and bassist Ryan Zakin and drummer Tamir Malik began turning late night noise into sharp, emotionally direct songs shaped by desire, disillusionment, and the frayed edges of modern connection. Drawing from Queens of the Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys, their sound centers on distorted low end, hard drums, and unfiltered songwriting.

Rooted in New York’s indie underground but quickly outgrowing it, Gardenia has become a fast rising presence in Brooklyn’s alt scene, earning recognition from MTV, BrooklynVegan, Ones To Watch, Under the Radar, EARMILK, New Noise Magazine, and Rebel Noise, alongside a growing audience and a reputation for visceral live shows.

Out February 13, Gardenia’s cover of MGMT’s “Electric Feel” pulls the familiar track into darker, heavier territory, trading its laid back groove for distorted bass, pounding drums, and a sharper edge. The cover, along with previously released tracks “Lana Del Rey,” “I Miss You, Alexa,” and “(Stranger),” will appear on the band’s self titled album Gardenia, produced by Grammy nominated producer Jack Shirley, out March 27 on Mint 400 Records.
