To live at a time in which we have immediate access to the entire recorded history of human creativity is no small thing. Utilized with care and intent, this unprecedented archive of ideas presents us a nearly endless palette from which to draw and a sprawling canvas on which to paint. Detroit newcomers Plasticc Partner are exercising that creative freedom to craft groove-laden, ethereal, post-modern electro-funk that oozes personality.

On their three song debut, Sisters of the 404, Plasticc Partner have constructed an instantly likable batch of masterfully crafted tunes with both an identity all their own and a knowing nod to the innovators who influenced them. With deft, watertight bass grooves that call to mind Thundercat or Bootsy Collins before him, brilliantly minimal, sample-heavy percussion that evokes the late great MF DOOM, and buttery smooth synths that recall the retro-futurist electro of Dâm-Funk, Sisters of the 404 is an innovative but comfortingly familiar musical synthesis.

With a never-ending onslaught of would-be creatives all vying for your attention at once, it can sometimes be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. But In a sea of unconvincing imitators and insipid half-steppers, Plasticc Partner are the real deal, and it couldn’t be more obvious.
