A 12 foot tin boat skipped across the chop in total darkness. The whine of the 20horsepower engine was dampened by the whistle of oncoming wind. Having robbed a boat shed for its stash of liquor, the young dog driving the boat had no beard. But he had eyes and what he saw was beautiful:
Grey clouds slid over the moon, whose light rendered the sky a guild of gliding gods. Below, so many different shades of black. The water a pearlescent swirling black, fractured with moonlight. The forest far in the background a flat unbroken shade, still and quiet, where the animals rested or hunted. No lights shone on the Island that was home. Everyone was sleeping. Towards that island the boat skipped. Alone on the water but not alone. In the middle of the channel, he cut the engine. Letting the wind carry him where it wanted.. See this scene with those eyes… That is the Black Pearl… This is the treasure…'
