With Coach Restifo guiding the offense St. Ignatius has won 11 state championships and three USA Today national championships. During his 36 years at the helm of the St. Ignatius offense, the Wildcats have won over 300 games.

15 Wildcat quarterbacks have earned All-Ohio honors during his tenure, and four of his quarterbacks went on to play in the NFL.

The guest on today’s Coach and Coordinator podcast is Erik Chinander, defensive coordinator at the University of Nebraska. This is Chinander’s first season at Nebraska after spending the last two seasons at the University of Central Florida. Chinander moved to Nebraska when Scott Frost moved from being the head coach at UCF to the same position at Nebraska. UCF’s defense forced an increased number of turnovers, ranking second in the nation in takeaways in 2017. And Chinander helped the UCF team to a 13-0 season and ranking top three in the American Athletic Conference in defensive touchdowns, scoring defense and pass efficiency defense. 

Before coaching at UCF, Chinander spent two seasons at the University of Oregon. Chinander coached the outside linebackers in his second stint at Oregon. He coached one year in the NFL in 2013, working as an assistant defensive line coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. Chinander first came to Oregon in 2010, working as an intern for a year and a defensive graduate assistant from 2011-12. His other coaching experience includes time at the University of Northern Iowa from 2004-09 and one season in 2003 at Ellsworth Community College (Iowa). Chinander played as an offensive lineman at the University of Iowa from 1998 to 2002.

Deep Dive On Defense- Playing The Tite Front To All Personnel Groupings With Rob Everett

Today’s Coach and Coordinator podcast guest is Noel Mazzone, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Arizona. This will be Mazzone’s second season at Arizona after two seasons at Texas A&M under former Aggies and current Wildcats head coach Kevin Sumlin. Prior to that, he served as UCLA’s offensive coordinator from 2012-15 and Arizona State from 2010-11. He spent four seasons in the NFL with the New York Jets as a wide receivers coach/consultant, in addition to collegiate stops at Mississippi, NC State, Oregon State, Auburn, Minnesota, TCU and Colorado State.

Mazzone has coached in 12 bowl games with seven different teams. He’s tutored several NFL quarterbacks, including Josh Rosen and Brett Hundley at UCLA, Brock Osweiler at Arizona State and Phillip Rivers at NC State. As a player, Mazzone played quarterback at the University of New Mexico and graduated in 1980.

All In On Offense- The Installation Plan And Execution With Arizona OC Noel Mazzone

Today on the Coach and Coordinator podcast is returning guest, Thad Wells, head coach at Mooresville (N.C.) High School. In his first season at Mooresville, he led a previously 4-8 team to a 9-4 record and the school’s first playoff in ten years. Prior to Mooresville, Wells was the head coach at Blacksburg (Va.) High School for three seasons. Under Wells, Blacksburg went 27-12 overall, including state title in 2016.

All In On Offense- Defeating the Tite Front with Matt Drinkall, Army Offensive Assistant

On today’s “Deep Dive on Defense” series, guest host Chris Vasseur sits down with Mississippi State head coach Joe Moorhead. Moorhead has had coaching stops at Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Akron, Connecticut, Fordham and most recently served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Penn State. During Moorhead’s tenure as OC at Penn State, the offense compiled 39.4 points per game and scored 30 points in 21 of their 26 contests over his two-year tenure. In 2017, the Penn State offense ranked in the top 25 nationally in seven different offensive statistics. Coach was named the 2016 and 2017 National Offensive Coordinator of the Year. In his first year at Mississippi State, the team went 8-5 and participated in the Outback Bowl vs. Iowa. Coach joins the Deep Dive today to talk about how he puts together his game plan and attacks defenses.

Deep Dive On Defense-Game Planning: Evaluating & Attacking Defenses w/ Joe Moorhead, H.C. Miss. St.

On today’s Coach and Coordinator podcast, guest host Chris Vasseur sits down with Dante Bartee, a grad assistant at Cal. Despite being only 23 years of age, Bartee has been coaching for six years, 2 as a junior and senior in high school at Perry High School (AZ), where he helped with film analysis, the scout team and scouting. In 2014, Perry added Barrtee to the coaching staff and in his second season, at only age 19, he became a co-defensive coordinator, a role in which he would have all to himself over the next 2 years. In 2018, coach Bartee was the linebacker coach for the Upper Iowa Peacocks. Bartee joins the podcast today to talk about the cover 7 defense.

On today’s episode of the Coach and Coordinator podcast, host Keith Grabowski is joined by Pedro Arruza, head coach at Randolph-Macon (RM), a Division III school in Ashland, Va. Arruza has been at the helm of RM for 15 years and has overhauled the program into one of the more successful D-III programs in the country. In 2018, he guided the Yellow Jackets to an ODAC Championship and a 9-3 overall record, which included a win over No. 8 ranked John Carroll in the first round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs. Coach joins the podcast today to talk about how he built his program and what their identity is.

Build the Bridge: Head Coach Mac Stephens and Assist. Coach Kahari Hicks, Cleveland Heights HS

After an illustrious 26-year head coaching career, Thom McDaniels is still impacting the next generation of football players and coaches. Some may mostly know him as the father of New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and the University of Michigan quarterback coach Ben McDaniels. But Thom McDaniels himself truly has had a Hall of Fame career. He earned the USA Today and Nike National Coach of the Year award in 1997. In that same season, Coach McDaniels led Canton (Ohio) McKinley to a state title and a national championship. Today McDaniels joins us to discuss how the high school football team provides an example as well as our opportunities as coaches to make a difference.
