Swedish producer Tiger Stripes, the alias of Mikael Nordgren, brings his techno touch to Hot Creations for his debut EP on the label this summer. Jack My Yum is a heavyweight three-parter that sees the Swede invite Hot Creations stable mate, Matt Tolfrey, to provide a stellar remix.

Opening track Jack My Yum is a warped and heavy roller with a smattering of dark vocals. Haunted brings with it a bass that you can feel reverberating off the concrete walls of a darkened club, interspersed with an eerie melody. Following his recent release Americas on the label, Leftroom Records boss Matt Tolfrey brings his groove and a bouncier bassline to proceedings with his version of the title track. Dunjacka completes the EP, with Nordgren sewing together a techno beat with broken vocal stabs, underpinned by a throbbing groove throughout.

Tiger Stripes has collaborated with legendary names such as Kerri Chandler, Adeva, Leroy Burgess, Riva Starr and Jerome Sydenham, with his brand of deep and futuristic techno seeing releases on some of the underground’s biggest imprints including Desolat, Drumcode and Cajual.

Ben Klock’s Klockworks invites the legendary London-based artist The Advent to join the ever-growing roster to deliver the 22nd instalment on the label, to be due out this September. The Advent started producing in his trademark raw, energetic style in 1994 and since then has become a rebel and an icon in the scene. Cisco Ferreira puts forward three stand-out tracks for Klockworks, one brand new one and two from The Advent’s rave archives.

On the A-side, ‘High Horse’ is a fresh track from The Advent that has been prominent in his live sets, features a saucy vocal that can also be recognised as a favourite in Ben Klock’s DJ sets in the past few months, now finally making an appearance on wax for the label. 

The flip-side features two previously unreleased tracks from the 90’s when the approach was more raw and groovy, something that can be seen having a revival in current times. ‘Un Named’ is more stripped down and pulsating while ‘Sound Pove’ features a jacking Chicago house groove with a techno tempo, both fitting perfectly into the Klockworks catalog.

After an excellent performance at Drumcode Festival, Tiger Stripes comes strong with his first EP on the label since 2009.

Since 2015 Tiger Stripes has been an invaluable contributor to Drumcode’s ‘little brother’ Truesoul. As recent as March he released ‘Sound of the Bettest’ in collaboration with Riva Starr, their fresh raggainfluenced take on techno entrenched as a 2018 highlight for the label. Drawing from a wide palette of sounds to craft his groovy, personality-laden take on techno, the Swede has produced arguably his finest work yet with the ‘Insanity’ EP. ‘Baby’ is a melting pot of three decades worth of influences, from James Brown, to Northern Soul and indie pop of Ariel Pink.

The result is a stunning kaleidoscopic techno treat, that brims with rave, garage and funky house spirit. ‘Insane’ is a dynamic feast for the eardrums as trippy arpeggios, a persistent vocal and lush synth leads cascade throughout the seven-minute track. ‘Too Deep (to Bear) follows, an exhilarating slice of late-night techno before the EP concludes with ‘Dying Planet’, mixing up a potent environmental message with tough dancefloor functionalism.

Matt Sassari is Truesoul’s first debutant of 2020, landing a punchy four-track work.

Hailing from the French port town of Marseille, the emerging artist caught Adam Beyer’s ear with strong cuts on imprints such as Relief Records and Sci-Tec. When the emerging artist begun sending demos, they quickly connected with the Truesoul boss and ‘Crack Body’ was rinsed heavily throughout the summer months of 2018.

Such is Beyer’s A&R style, patiently waiting for all the pieces of the EP puzzle to take shape, Sassari’s maiden release for the label has finally found form. The title track – familiar to fans from DCR415 – is a groove-packed party-starter brought to life by a rousing vocal sequence. With its bumping bottom end and attitude-packed vox, ‘Bruuh’ is a colourful and energetic addition to any set. ‘Everytime I See You’, is soulful techno made for big occasions, led by a memorable vocal and shuffling beats. ‘Cooking Drums’ displays Sassari’s penchant for building plenty of swing from the ground upwards, as chopped up vocal effects lay atop a sturdy bed of drums to create a useful DJ tool.
