James Truepenny and Alex Watt talk all things NJPW!

The Truepenny Show is a weekly podcast that looks at wider wrestling issues, historical stories, and wrestling news and reviews from the wider wrestling world. If you like Indie Wrestling, Japanese Wrestling, Lucha Libre, World of Sports or even just good old fashioned wrestling from your local town hall, it will be covered at some point on The Truepenny Show.

Chelsea has a unique and fascinating take on pro wrestling, she talks about her experiences about joining the Internet Wrestling Community, writing and podcasting about wrestling and what drew her too the genre.

On June 17th-18th, Aberystwyth University will become home to The Wrestling Symposium, a highly anticipated, and unique opportunity for scholars and students to discuss professional wrestling and how it can be approached as an academic endeavor. Curator of the Symposium, and PhD Student at Aberyswyth, Thomas Alcott, about how they came up with the idea, who will be attending and presenting, and the subjects that The Symposium hopes to cover. They also discuss all sorts of pro wrestling subjects and how popular pro wrestling is amongst the Academic fraternity.

As the WWE embarks on its Network related Cruiserweight Classic tournament James Truepenny is joined by Marcus Green to discuss the history of lighter wrestlers in the North American mainstream as well as its roots in Europe and Japan. A short history of the Best of Super Juniors, the WCW Cruiserweight Championship , the TNA X Division title, and the issues surrounding Independent wrestlers and companies working for and with the WWE. So this week we go all flippy, retired veterans may not approve.

The revolution in women's wrestling these last twenty four months had to start somewhere. James Truepenny is joined by Shoulders Up's Chelsea Spollen to look at Dream Slam I, AJW's epic joint promotion with JWP, LLPW, and FMW, to find out where women's wrestling has gotten its drive from in recent years. 

They break down the card and look at its influence on the wrestling of today, its effect on Joshi, and what wrestling of that era for women in Japan was like. The pressure cooker effect of joint promotion and the high stakes, high impact matches that makes this a true "Rights of Passage" watch for all wrestling fans. So come join James and Chelsea at Yokohama Arena on the 2nd of April 1993 for what James believes is the greatest wrestling card of all time.

With Wrestlemania emanating from Florida next year, and Slammiversary coming from the adopted home state, James is joined by Marcus Green to discuss business in the Sunshine State. looking back to the territory days, the influence of Eddie Graham, the Brisco Brothers and of course "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes. The show looks at WCW's connections with the state and the big moments in their Florida taping runs before looking at the two wrestling residents of Florida right now; Impact Wrestling and their tenure at The Impact Zone as well as FCW, NXT and the Performance Centre.

TNA's annual celebration of its birth gave us an incredible well built main event, the Hardy Brothers exploding, EC3 vs Mike Bennett in a highly charged and anticipated singles bout, Decay vs for The Bromans for the World Tat titles, a make shift women's title match and an X Division spectacular. James and Marcus analyse the event from top to bottom, even the unfortunate "Billy Corgan in a suit" incident, and see what could be in store for the Nashville company in coming months.

Slammiversary 2016

It has been a while since The Truepenny Show visited NJPW, so Alex Watt of UniLad and Chelsea Spollen of Shoulders Up come back to the show to take us through Best of the Super Juniors and Dominion 6.19. The shows offered up some great matches; Ospreay would challenge KUSHIDA for the IWGP Junior title after an spectacular run in the BOSJ, #DemBoys The Brisco Brothers challenged The Geurillas of Destiny for IWGP tag gold, The IC title was up for grabs in a ladder match, the continuing story of Shibata versus the New Japan Dads, and of course Tetsuya Naito Defending his IWGP Heavyeight Championship against The Rainmaker Kazuchika Okada.   The show also looks forward too the G1 Climax tournament, and had some creative ideas for its coverage.

NJPW July '16 Update

Ben Spindler is back! After a lengthy hiatus Ben is ready to talk wrestling again, and has come back to The Truepenny Show for a lengthy discussion about what is going on in the wrestling world and how it really doesn't appeal to him right now. James and Ben talk about whats happened to him during his hiatus, what he does like about wrestling at the moment and what he thinks could change his opinion and bring him back to the wrestling fan fold, and if this could happen to someone who was as deep into wrestling as Ben, it begs the question; what happened to the casual wrestling fan?

What Happened To The Casual Wrestling Fan?

Ben Spindler rejoins James Truepenny as they try and pick apart The Final Deletion; Matt and Jeff Hardy's match to end all matches? Or a Mock Epic Poem of violence? Whilst trying to pick out the drone shots from the dross, James and Ben also look at the implications for TNA and its long term business prospects, is this a new creative direction that could be the saviour of the company? How does it fit in to the wider Impact Wrestling Universe? And what else does the show have to offer now the eyes are on the product?


The Final Deletion

The 26th G1 Climax Tournament began last Tuesday and The Truepenny Show is going to bring you full coverage starting with night one. This featured two supreme heavyweight clashes Hiroshi Tanahashi taking on former TNA star Sanada who has reinvented himself into being Los Ignorables' cold blooded killer. In the other main event Rainmaker Kazuchika Okada, Ace and IWGP Heavyweight Champion takes on Naomichi Marufuji NOAH Ace, as two of the best wrestlers of their generation battle it out for points in Group A. 

Also in this episode James, Alex Watt and Alex Edwards look at the Super J Cup and the matches featuring wrestlers from All Japan, NOAH, DDT and Suzuki Gun, as the Juniors take over K Hall.

G1 Climax 2016 Week 1

Three shows that try and give well rounded discussion to everything in wrestling around the world.

The Wrestling Rewind is hosted by Darragh O’Connor and Dave Stephens as they take an in-depth look at the stories in North American pro wrestling from the previous week.
