John Talabot and Axel Boman teamed up in 2017 for their R&S debut ’The Night Land’ where they got to flex their creative muscles over eight tracks of rich synth jams.  

The two electronic artists have been independently successful in their respective careers, but as Pitchfork expressed in their glowing review “Their collective output doesn’t sound much like either’s work; it doesn’t even necessarily reflect the thin, convex sliver where their interests overlap. Instead, they’ve hit upon something new.”

This new sound also proved to be a hit with the likes of Mojo, Phonica, XLR8R, Self Titled and DJ Mag all including it their annual best of lists.

The artists have now handpicked four artists to create their own vision of the Talaboman sound.  
Superpitcher, Samo DJ, Luke Slater under his L.B. Dub Corp alias and Powder have all seriously delivered the goods.

The Party We Could Have

To know Lerosa is to have a huge amount of respect for him. The Dublin-based, Italian producer isn't concerned with the limelight. Rather, his studio philosophy resembles the Japanese concept of “kaizen” a workmanlike, incremental improvement.

Leopoldo Rosa's debut for Acid Test is the producer's first album in eight years, but since then he's put out in the neighborhood of 15 EPs for the likes of Idle Hands, Ferox and Saft, homing in on his own lush sound, which weaves effortlessly between deep house, acid and electro.

He applies all these patient lessons on “Bucket Of Eggs”, the ten masterful tracks fit perfectly within the label's concept. Yet Rosa, like the label's stable of 303 auteurs (Tin Man, Recondite, John Frusciante, Pepe Bradock) opens up bold new vistas for the subgenre. On "Conjurors," he spends half the track building up atmosphere so thick and dubby you could cut it with a knife, before introducing an acid line and jack track heralding back to the acid's maddening, revolutionary roots.

About halfway through the set, Lerosa is done setting the stage, and thusluy delivers a string of freakishly good late night tracks. For Lerosa, the hips and the head work in concert—"One Is Too Short"'s no-nonsense rhythm section perfectly balanced by the track's dreamy synth and zero-grav piano breaks. On "Self Inflicted," he joins a rarified class, synthesizing electro funkiness, widescreen ambience and acid counterpoint.

On initial contact, Lerosa's “Bucket Of Eggs” feels astonishing, an expertly-paced, near-perfect LP. But for those who have been following the low-key producer, it feels like a natural culmination.

B3 - One Is Too Short

Taken from Corpus Hypercubus, the debut album from JESUSLOVESACID.

CORPUS HYPERCUBUS is our first trip into hyperspace. The album namesake is derived from Dali’s surrealist portrayal of the Crucifixion of Jesus, it depicts Christ on the polyhedron net of a tesseract or what we like to refer to as a hypercube. JESUSLOVESACID is an artistic concept by Vitalik Recordings label head Ryan O Gorman. The concept is based around the relationship between science and spirituality, hyper-dimensional geometry and iconography with heavy undertones of psychedelia. 

Will Berridge (or Path as he is better known on Vitalik) mixed the album and collaborated on the production of the album interludes. Marlon Lopez Holden performed the live bass on the album. The artwork is a collaboration between Julien Frener and Ryan O Gorman. 

The album is released in august, the launch party takes place at Pikes Ibiza August 31st with a live performance from Mathew Jonson (who is featured on the the first album remix EP with brother Nathan Jonson under their Midnight Operator moniker) plus DJ sets from JESUSLOVESACID and guests. Follow up EP’s feature remixes from Radioactive Man, Appleblim, Path, Paul Loraine and Francesco Mami.

In the midst of the darkness there was little to see but for the flickering shapes of shadows and hollow objects. The sun would rise again in several hours but for now the earth had settled beneath the milky glow of the moonlight and the people of the planet revelled beneath the cloak of black. Tall trees blew softly in the wind, evergreen and dense they offered little in the way of support or guidance - each part of the dense. dark forest looked just the same and as eerie as ever. An owl whistled softly upon the rolling wind. 

Compass are a duo with a bright and promising future, they are slowly but surely about to release a collection of tracks online which caught our attention and offer promise on the dancefloor. Energetic and melodic, very danceable.

KiNK presents "Home"

This aptly titled EP is the debut release on the newborn label Sofia.  Founded by Strahil Velchev and Konstantin Petrov, Sofia is not only the physical location where this music was made, the city where they met and developed as artists, but also a paradox that is reflected in the art and music that comes from the place. Beautiful and ugly at the same time, clean and dirty, brutal as well as romantic, it’s a place where aesthetically seemingly incompatible styles come together in a twisted, yet unifying form. The photographs for the sleeves are made by influential local selector DJ Valentine, effortlessly capturing the local reality.

Those pieces of a paradox also are reflected in the music. The typical fine-grit of KiNK’s production skills meets his love for the elements of surprise and the classic building blocks and plaster of house and techno to create something that is very much his own, while breathing the spirit of early days and pioneering times. Hinged just before and after peak time, the tracks on this EP are cohesive, made to last and rounded off by the contemplativeness of yet another collaboration with Rachel Row called „The Beauty“. The first of many to come.
