The Anjunabeats Rising EP series returns for its 13th instalment, featuring new music from Laura van Dam, Luccio & Rune Noire, and Supernature.

Over the last two decades, Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats label has launched the careers of some of the most respected names in electronic music: Andrew Bayer, ARTY, Audien, ilan Bluestone, Seven Lions and Mat Zo, to name just a few. In January 2021, the label launched Anjunabeats Rising: a new EP series highlighting the next generation of producers and championing emerging artists from around the world. 

Anjunabeats Rising introduced over 40 new acts to the label during 2021, including GVN, Alex Sonata & TheRio, Naz, Stephen Kirkwood, HRRTZ, Bexxie and more. After a brief hiatus, the series now returns.

Labelled by 1001tracklists.com as the 'future of dance', Amsterdam's Laura van Dam honed her production skills whilst working as an A&R for Doorn Records, graduating onto the label in 2019 with 'Skyfly'. 'Set Me Free' is the first of several tracks you'll be hearing from Laura on Anjunabeats this year - she also joins us at Group Therapy Weekender London this September.

A producer and DJ based in Miami, Luccio has supported some of trance's biggest names at shows across the Magic City. He teams up with Rune Noire on 'Try', first heard on Fatum's Anjunabeats Worldwide 10 compilation.

Rounding off the EP are UK duo Supernature, aka Kevin Thorpe and Zed Sinclair. 'Somewhere In Time' pays homage to a wide selection of Kevin and Zed's influences, including CamelPhat, Tangerine Dream, 80's sci-fi and filmmaker Christopher Nolan.

Production duo anamē remix “Tears From The Moon,” Conjure One’s seminal 2002 track featuring Sinéad O’Connor.

No track pulls on the heartstrings quite like Conjure One’s “Tears From The Moon.” Sinéad O’Connor’s lyrics about love, loss and despair create a tsunami of emotion, while Conjure One’s simple drums and rich orchestra sound like heartbreak personified. When Tiestö remixed the track in 2004 he retained the emotion while making it dance floor-ready. Unsurprisingly, it became an instant hit and inspired thousands of producers – anamē included. 

anamē is the new project from Marcus Schössow, (previously gardenstate) and Thomas Sagstad. Remixing “Tears From The Moon” was a lifelong ambition for the pair, seeing as Tiestö’s remix was one of their personal anthems. 

The remix is anamē’s third release on Anjunabeats, following “Influencer” with BLR and Robbie Rise and “Gratitude” in collaboration with Above & Beyond. Since launching the project in 2022, anamē has played at Anjunabeats Europe and Group Therapy Weekender at The Gorge, and supported Above & Beyond at their Gashouder shows in Amsterdam in May 2022. anamē are set to release plenty more music throughout the year and will be supporting Above & Beyond at Brooklyn Mirage on August 21 and at Group Therapy Weekender London on September 10.

Conjure One is the ambient, down-tempo project from Rhys Fulber, who is also one half of trance duo Delerium. “Tears From The Moon” was a single from his eponymous first album, and has 1.7m streams on Spotify to date. Sinéad O’ Connor is a ‘90s icon, with her 1999 hit “Nothing Compares 2 U” topping charts worldwide and reaching 232m streams on Spotify. She’s released 10 albums, two of which went Gold in the UK, and worked alongside global superstars including Prince, U2 and Massive Attack.

"Remixing ‘Tears From The Moon’ was one of the easiest choices of our lives,” says anamē. “We both grew up listening to the Tiësto remix, and we wanted to incorporate that into our sets but in our own way. The vocals from Sinéad O'Connor just hit you right in the heart, and that's what it's all about.”

DUALITY: An album in two parts.

Since day one, I have always struggled with how to present myself. Am I a dance music producer who does downtempo / experimental albums? Or is it the other way around? My first album had a bit of both, which is why I have referred to ‘Duality’ as the true followup to ‘It’s Artificial’. Part One focuses on the downtempo side of things with hints of indie-pop, while Part Two explores my progressive and trance roots. This is by far my most raw and honest work. On June 1, we released two songs from each part: “Equal” with Asbjørn (Official), and “Midnight” with Alison May.

I did not do this album alone. These are more than just “features,” these are collaborations. Together, we have woven a massive journey that is deeply personal, and showcases our most vulnerable selves. Many of these fabulous collaborators are also LGBT+, and I am so proud to be a part of this wonderful musical family.

‘Duality Part One’ is out now, and ‘Duality Part Two’ will follow on October 28th.

Returning for a further instalment of his long-running series whose first volume appeared in late 2017, Rick Pier O'Neil delivers three new original tracks on "One Side of the Underground, Vol. 6", while remixes come from Colombia and Australia.

Opening proceedings, the bristling bassline groove of "Anki" immediately supplies energy aplenty while heavy beat and atmospheric melodies flow across the 7-minute piece with ease. A hypnotic arpeggio emerges at the mid-point before powering into the second half in dynamic fashion. The lighter melodic air of "Namlus" showcases Rick's production talent as free-flowing harmonies and delicate string motifs join with deep bassline presence to create a rich filmic quality. Plucked synth passages enter the fray post-breakdown where the sonic collage paints a vivid picture. "Tlaloc" continues the oppressive bassline narrative of its partner tracks as shuffling hi-hats add a subtle urgency to proceedings. Pitched analogue synths and a fizzing LFO pattern pierce the mid-range midway, while a coruscating arp pulsates powerfully forwards into the latter stages before ebbing gently away.

A Colombian artist with a rapidly rising reputation, David Barragan is an artist who continues to impress via his Dabeat production moniker. Responsible for a host of production credits on the likes of Anjunadeep, Sprout and Sudbeat Music, his debut solo EP for Proton Music after collaborative work with fellow countryman Kamilo Sanclemente, saw "Equilibrium" illustrate an elegant touch and immaculate sense of rhythm upon its release in May 2022. Returning for his first solo remix, the Dabeat interpretation of "Ixchel" is full of intricate rhythmic flair as cascading rhythms blend with a deep bassline in a smooth new rework. Cleverly using the root melodic phrases from Rick Pier O'Neil's original, a raft of delicate new motifs and production material flows across the latter stages, culminating in a delicious and meandering arpeggio that provides a dance-friendly touch.

Another artist whose stock has risen rapidly among the underground dance fraternity, Zankee Gulati has witnessed a string of impressive releases from his adopted home in New South Wales. Quickly establishing himself in Sydney's club environment, Zankee's production work for the likes of Balance Music, Plattenbank and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, has established the Australian as a driving force. Making his Proton Music debut after a string of releases on Particles, most notably with his 2018 "Breathe" EP, the Zankee Gulati remix builds a new rolling groove around "Imperial" that immediately supplies club-friendly rhythms. Familiar refrains from Rick Pier O'Neil's original flow through the near 9-minute remix while sumptuous pads add new texture. A pulsating white-noise crescendo heralds a driving second half as the iconic main synth motif plays out post-breakdown with hypnotic ease.

Continuing to flourish topside with Dabeat and Zankee Gulati, Rick Pier O'Neil shows his mastery, "One Side of the Underground".

Above & Beyond return to the dance floor with ‘Tranquility Base Vol. 1’, a collection of five heavy-hitting club records, calling back to their instrumental roots. 

The GRAMMY-nominated founders of Anjunabeats have been quiet of late. Following six months of studio hibernation after their sold-out Group Therapy 500 celebrations at Banc of California Stadium last October, Jono, Paavo and Tony have been busy working on their next extended project.   This April, they make their return to the dance floor, with two sold-out shows for Printworks London’s closing season, and a love letter to their instrumental club past: the launch of the ‘Tranquility Base EP’ series. 

Above & Beyond’s Tranquility Base alias was revered for its contribution to the trance genre, including iconic records such as ‘Surrender’, ‘Oceanic’ and ‘Razorfish’. The ‘Tranquility Base EP’ series showcases the current instrumental records firmly lodged in Jono, Paavo and Tony’s record boxes. 

Above & Beyond’s ‘Angry JP8’, the electro-edged lead single off ‘Tranquility Base Vol. 1 is out now, with the full EP arriving May 25.
