Demiurge

This is the story of a famous drummer. Although once popular he is now just a shriveled old man. Living in a nursing home, he suffers from serious mental degradation; He barely recognizes his family anymore, looses his medication, and needs constant care. One day while being wheeled thru the facility, he hears the drone of an air conditioner, the voice of someone singing on a tv in the other room, and people talking. Suddenly all goes quiet and he remembers his most precious memory; He remembers the routine he played on his band’s 1st, smash hit; Well, the beginning of it. He reaches into his memory database to recall more than just the intro. Instead of the intense cacophony of drums he hears beautiful pads, luscious bells and angelic chimes, with human like voices in the background. He shakes his head and remembers again his drums, but keeps slipping into pretty noises he never played before and shouldn’t remember. He almost has it at one point, alas it eludes him.Then he almost loses it completely, but a single snare draws him back in. With his mental state in complete disarray, he gives one last push to recall the beat, only to have his neurons die. Hearing buzzing, his brain wiring disconnects as the memory of his song disappears forever from his mind. He settles into his chair as he’s escorted through the garden outside, lost in the ignorant bliss of not knowing he has just lost his most precious memory. All he has now is his dmentia.
