We here at Second State are thrilled to bring you our new concept entitled HUB. While most labels these days are doing various artists releases to showcase the overall talent on their label, we thought it would be better suited for both our listeners and ourselves to break the mold and bring you a series of true collaborations. Each HUB release will feature a single artist teaming up with others from the Second State family to create an EP of authentic musical compromises. A place where multiple minds find a harmony somewhere outside their own identity and each collaboration conceives a genuinely unique artifact. With this, there is no one we would rather have kick off the series than the man behind the massive EPs; 'Throwl' and 'Doch', Stephan Hinz with HUB One!

Of course it would only be right to kick off the first track of the first HUB One way. An alliance with, Pan-Pot. "Tension' is a heavy number with just a few key elements, it's a slow lurking journey through a dark forest at night. As each bush and branch is pushed aside and every step inches closer to a destination unknown, the pressure builds. Soon, without knowing, you are in the depths of a jungle with no way back and only one decision. Keep going.

Senso Sounds drop a major release from techno heavyweight Dubfire and label boss Oliver Huntemann. Reuniting the partnership that has seen a string of seminal releases over the years in the form of their 'Elements' series, 'Humano' is the 2nd part of a continuation of this series - more weapons of grade dance-floor material from the high profile duo. Later on this year their partnership will be summarized in their 'Restrospec- tivo' album.
Former Deep Dish man Dubfire’s uncanny knowledge of how to create epic dance- floor moments is in full effect, combined with Huntemann’s precision tool production techniques on the original version of the title track. The result is a super tough, tight and incalculably driving slice of techno goodness that will ignite floors worldwide. The rest of the EP manages to maintain the pressure - with a set of sick remixes from Victor Ruiz, Hatzler and Shaded.
Ruiz, the Brazilian techno pioneer adds another level of fire to the original, tweaking and refining the track into a damager that pushes everything to 11 and hits home with every play. Hatzler, the Hamburg based German DJ/producer chooses a different direction - emphasizing more of the space in the original. Rinsing the tension to the next level, look out for the epic middle section break down. The whole package is primed to destroy clubs far and wide - techno at its most effective. Shaded’s Summer Skin remix also delivers a tightly wound interpretation, with a bubbling bass line and nervous, excited groove providing the fuel for an extended dancefloor excursion.

Giant Swan are debuting on Mannequin Records through the Death of the Machines serie, the dancefloor/experimental oriented side of the label, dedicated to new artists.

Robin Stewart & Harry Wright team up to create an acerbic marriage of energised, aggressive dance music, quaking bass and hypnotic electronic noise. Across a table of machines and pedals, incorporating abused guitar and liberal vocal manipulation, Giant Swan create a cross-breed of hypnotic bass, industrial percussion and disorientating energy delivered with telepathic intricacy.

One and a half years since her last outing on Second State, Amelie Lens returns to the label with her highly anticipated new 3-tracker, ‘Hypnotized EP‘. Following up to the much acclaimed ‘Basiel EP’ issued in 2018 through her own imprint, Lenske, Amelie steps up right in time for the much busy festival season ahead with a pair of razor-sharp peaktime weapons, plus a nasty gabber-inflected remix from rising Belgian duo Joyhauser. With upcoming dates including performances at Sónar, Movement, Awakenings, Exit, Kappa Future and Sonus, needless to say these are bound to get dance floors on fire this summer.

Having triggered a massive response from the audience during her sets over the last year, the title track ’Hypnotized‘ breaks the ice on a fiercely pounding note. Flexing out the heavy kick artillery, brooding chord stabs and cascading snares while Amelie’s delayed vox hooks steadily sink us into a whelming state of trance. Reaching for the most remote recesses of the dancers’ minds, ‘Access’ revs up the engine a notch further with its psychoactive synthwaves, furling and swirling across full bars of louder than loud 909 thump. Adding their euphoric spin to the lead cut, ‘Hypnotized’, Joyhauser seal the deal with an all-out ravey anthem of a rework, custom-built for epic, warehouse-sized maneuvers and iron-pumping mid-set apexes. Shockwaves are coming.

Détrompez-vous. Soulever le soyeux drapé noir de cette pochette augural ne manquerait pas de vous abasourdir. À défaut d'y découvrir l'achalandée silhouette d'une pieuse extrémiste, c'est un compositeur autistique à la crinière filandreuse, sur lequel vous risqueriez de tomber.

Derrière l'apparente timidité de ce masque pourtant fondu dans le métal de sa plus tendre adolescence, se cache – comme l'indique d'ailleurs le titre de ce maxi – un individu obscur aux sentiments partagés entre un insondable désir de violence destructrice et une aspiration ardente pour la délicatesse. Il ne saurait être commode que d'élucider plus encore les différents mystères et paradoxes que camouflent volontairement ou non Ivort au plus profond de ses entrailles.

Avec ces trois titres, Ivort succède au Cos(mos) de Grain Noir, son ami d'enfance, dans un style qu'il décrit lui-même comme moins méta-philosophique, plus primitif, mais néanmoins bien loin d'être irraisonné. Conçu à l'image d'une bande-son de ces jeux vidéo aux couleurs apocalyptiques, Hidden se veut minimaliste quand ses pieds courent à 140 battements la minute, abstrait quand son orchestre synthétique cantille vers d'infinies harmonies, et puis déstructuré, là où ses lignes de basse deviennent enfin strictement linéaires. Une grandiose confusion, brillamment maîtrisée.
