Hot Mess

A sister of mine asked me to write a song for her daughter's graduation this past June (2018).  I had no issues with that however being that I live 2 provinces away and have for the last 20 years I don't really know my niece all that well, plus I felt the song would be more meaningful if the words/message came from her mother. She had plenty to say and I didn't want to leave anything out so I let her know that the song is 6 minutes long. That's pretty long. She said that is cool because she wanted to put it to a slideshow that she was going to make for her daughter and even called me back saying there are 5 photos that she absolutely cannot leave out so would I be able to make it about 30 seconds longer! I did and it is my favourite part of the song. Enjoy!

When my youngest was in grade 2 I was asked if I'd write a thank you song, a few weeks before the end of the year, for our amazing teacher Mrs. Schnare. Of course I was going to do it but I suggested that the students all write something they like about their teacher and something they think their teacher likes about them. (honestly that was to help me with words because even though the music pours out of me every day, I usually can't think of things to say.) Well, the stuff these kids came up with was pure gold! No way would I have been able to think of the things they wrote down. I believe, it came from a personal space and their own personal experiences and interactions with their teacher.  During the summer break I invited the kids over to record the chorus because I thought having them sing would add a whole other level to the song. OHH EMM GEE! IT was awesome! Their timing was off, some kids forgot the words in places, it sounded slightly off a little, so I asked them if they wanted to do a retake. They said "NO! We like it." Well I must say that leaving it that way was the best move ever! It sounds so real, just like grade 2. Enjoy!

I wrote this one last year but just now finally had a chance to record and send it out into the world! A good friend of mine helped me write a line in the first chorus and, with that, set the mood and direction for this song. Thank you Dezorella! I hope you enjoy this.
