CLARINET CONCERTINO FOR CHAMBER ORCHESTRA by KEITH MOSS

"Specially commissioned by the SAMRO FOUNDATION & OSM CAMERATA for the first International Clarinet Extravaganza to be presented at Odeion School of Music (UFS). The concertino by Keith Moss was composed to challenge the soloist in areas of technique and style, but also remain accessible to the audience. Moss’ unique tonal language and the manner in which he deals with harmony produced a one movement work in three traditional parts. A lilting waltz in the opening movement allows the soloist to take centre stage and make use of the OSM CAMERATA’S unique combination of instruments, a sparse background on which to display the clarinets melodic abilities. The second section borrows a theme from the clarinet quintet by Brahms, quoting the opening phrase of the Intermezzo, it is turned on its head and given a romantic treatment. Here the soloist’s role is to express the instruments melancholic character before launching into a virtuos third section. A short theme is treated in a Rondo type fashion interspersed with cheeky jazz-like sections. Some signature moments appear in the third movement, especially the closing statement, which gives all the players a chance to play out".

CLARINET CONCERTINO FOR CHAMBER ORCHESTRA KEITH MOSS

This is a work for string quartet that is aimed at representing the injustices towards women. Its an emotive piece that depicts the case of a girl that has been robbed of her innocence and goes through different emotional and mental states in trying to come to terms with her trauma but ultimately conquering them in the end. 

This work is aimed at raising awareness against rape and the mistreatment of women all over the world and provides some emotional musical moments that hopefully give some insights into her journey.
