Coming up on 20 years ago, when I was still recording on 1/4" magnetic tape (for you young people, magnetic tape... oh well), I engineered a session with a voice talent who couldn't seem to clear his throat. I had a helluva time slicing up his narration into a coherent piece. I did, however, save the coughs and edited them together. I call it the "Cough-gasm." Enjoy... if you can stand it!

I recorded my guest through the mic on his computer through Riverside.fm and then fed that file into Adobe Podcast (beta). After that I did a bit of additional noise reduction using Adobe Audition's noise reduction plug-in and then gently gated the track to remove some extraneous bumps and noises. While not perfect, it's a monumental improvement. I can't wait to record with a decent microphone in a not-so-great environment to see how Adobe Podcast processes it. Could this be used for critical voice over work?
