Don't Conform (Remastered)

From inside the classrooms of Burnley College and outside into the expansive galaxies far and far beyond, ‘Solar’ are a four piece, alternative punk/ rock band from Burnley, Lancashire. After meeting in a variety of canteens and corridors, James ‘Smitt’ Smith (Vocals/ Guitar), Dawson Issit (Drummer), Jimmy Farrow (Bass/ Backing Vocals) and Oliver Calland (Guitar) left their education behind, escaping from their teaching environments in a search for more. Never looking back and into their post-college summer, they formed ‘Solar’ as a creative outlet; a means to delve into their shared musical interests. 

With ages ranging between 19 and 22, and already with a year of consistent practising and gigs underneath their belts, each member of ‘Solar’ looks to the future eagerly: less than satisfied when things become stuck in the motions, still. Aware of the contemporary music scene continuously gearing up around them, and with influences in a variety of ‘new-age’ rock bands, such as Blink 182, Linkin Park, Slaves, IDLES, and Foo Fighters, ‘Solar’ describe their music as: “Thrashy, in your face. Loud and energetic. A mixing of melodic riffs with punky, heavy crashing drums and vocals.” 

Quick to make haste, ‘Solar’ soon hit the North after recording their self-titled debut EP in February of 2020. With both recording and production help from Chris Lewis, at Groove Studios in Burnley’s town centre, they soon began to receive numerous offers from the iconic cities and venues around them. Shortly after the successful launching of their EP, at The Golden Lion, in Todmorden, ‘Solar’ began playing well known Manchester venues, including the Night and Day cafe. With festival experience at this year's Lunar Attack, in Lancaster, ‘Solar’ won’t be going anywhere soon.
