WerQ it Out 2020, Vol. #3: Tribute to Deborah Cox

Volume #4 is titled "Ultimate T-Dance". For those of you who don't know, T-Dances in the LGBTQ+ community began sometime in the 1970's after the famed Stonewall Riots.  Traditionally T-Dances were held on Sunday's and never began before 2:00pm. They usually lasted 4-6 hours. Traditional dances took place outside by a pool, along the beach, on the patio of a bar, on balconies or on a pier or boardwalk.  Today they are commonly referred to as "Sunday Funday". The music is generally light, loaded with vocals and considered "happy" music.  The tempo usually ranges between 126 - 130 BPM's (Beats per Miinute). Nowadays T-Dances are in a sense a "happy hour" or if its winter and you are at a ski slope, an "Apres Ski".
In gay culture, T-Dances took off and got their start on Fire Island in New York state. Soon The Castro in San Francisco became famous for it's T-Dances. During the summer months, Provincetown, the Jersey shore & Rehoboth Beach conduct large dances that carry on every weekend. The Palace on SoBe (Miami Beach) intorduced drag shows as part of their Sunday Funday festivities. Music would blast on to Ocean Drive and across to the 12th Street Gay Beach.
I invite you to listen to this set, many of the songs you will know. Some of the songs you may have heard once or twice and be familiar with the melodies. A few of the songs you may have never heard before. Put this set on when you are spending the day at the beach, tanning by the pool, out on a boat or having a BBQ cookout.

Here is my tribute to Janet Jackson, one of the greatest artists of all time.  I worked on this mixed set this past month of May in anticipation to going to see her in concert this June in Miami.  COVID-19 has since changed those plans.  The concert has been postponed with no concert date in site.  So until then, this is for all you Janet lovers.

Yesterday was a very hard day for me when I got the news that Peter has passed. I was num and the day just kinda went on without me. The last post was a tribute to him and also get well wishes. But as I awake to today I realize that my wish did not come true. I also realize that we must not forget all the joy and inspiration that he gave to us through music. He packed venues and kept us wanting more. So I am doing my part to make sure we keep him alive in our hearts and remember all the times on the dance floor or in the car or where ever you where when you heard his music and think about how you felt. I know he has inspired me and his music has lifted me up in m time of need, and I want to make sure that he is never forgotten. Love You Peter,  Thank You and R.I.P

DJ D-STU, Dennis Stuart, began deejaying in 2007 in Fort Lauderdale at a nightclub called the Coliseum.  D-STU’s influencers in DJ’s Manny Lehman, GRIND, Drew G, Roland Belmares, Joe Pacheco, Joe Gauthreaux, Nina Flowers & Edu Quintas.  D-STU has deejayed all over the country and all of the world spinning at massive festivals and parties including Winter Party Festival (Miami), Black & Blue Festival (Montreal), GayDayS (Orlando), Sydney Gay Mardi Gras, Market Days (Chicago), Aspen Gay Ski Week, Folsom Street Fair (San Francisco), Prism (Toronto), Rapture (Vancouver), Cherry (D.C.), Southern Decadence (New Orleans), White Party Weekend (Miami) to name a few and at some of the largest clubs around including Discotekka (Miami), Score (Miami Beach), The Cuff (Seattle), ARQ (Sydney), G.A.Y. (London), Hydrate (Chicago), Unity (Montreal), Towne (D.C.), Oz (New Orleans), and Rich’s (San Diego) to name a few.  D-STU’s style is under the “circuit music” label.  In 2017 D-STU took a hiatus in the music field to pursue a women’s volleyball coaching job at Florida Atlantic University in South Florida.  D-STU made his return to deejaying in October 2021 playing at the Living Room/District Hotel and Faces Nightclub in Oklahoma City.  His return to the “circuit” commenced in January 2022 as he deejayed the Atlantis Cruise Bon Voyage Party at Twist on South Beach in Miami.  D-STU made his return to GayDayS in Orlando in the summer of 2023 after a 6-year hiatus.  DJ D-STU made his RAM Party debut at HalloWOOF in Dallas alongside DJ’s Paulo & House of Labs. This upcoming June, 2024, D-STU will be spinning the RIPTIDE Party at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoona in association with OMW (One Mighty Weekend) & Bear Jamboree.
