It was the day George Michael died, it was the 25th of December. A few nights later I couldn't sleep, thinking about his amazing music. At 3am I put all my George Michael songs together, added some other songs and started spontaneously mixing this tribute to our beloved George Michael! Finally, in the morning, when everyone was having breakfast, I was done. So enjoy the man with the most beautiful voice who spread love all over the world, but the world lost him too soon. We will never forget you. This mix is for you.

Monnom Black will mark its 17th release with its first various artist compilation presented on triple vinyl. Keeping with the label’s modus operandi, the compilation is packed with iconic, raw and uncompromising techno, featuring 13 artists new and old to the imprint, including a re-release of a classic Drax aka Thomas P. Heckmann track from 1993.

To coincide with the launch of the compilation, Monnom Black will hold its first highly-anticipated label party. Locking arms with the notorious underground Dutch promoters Reaktor, known for their challenging events and pushing the boundaries of what techno has to offer. Together they will celebrate with an electronic onslaught on New Year’s Eve in Amsterdam’s Elementstraat Warehouse. A location cut to the bone that perfectly encapsulates the label and promoters combined vision and ethos.

Dax J curates the night fusing the label together for a special moment in time, with the titan warehouse opening up two of its rooms hosting a monster line up with the likes of CJ Bolland, Regis as CUB, Thomas P. Heckmann, I Hate Models, UVB, Stranger, Zanias, Cressida, Inhalt Der Nacht, Raffaele Attanasio, Tommy Holohan and Remco Beekwilder.

This podcast marks the 9th episode of our TNDB-podcast series. We are very happy to welcome one of the best artists of our time: Rebekah. With over more than 20 years of experience behind the decks and a discography that matches her experience, Rebekah has established herself as one of the leading exponents of techno globally.

Her early EP’s on labels like Naked Lunch, Smut Music, and Cult Figures didn’t go unnoticed. Even more recognition came her way with her remix of Matador’s “Blond Slackers”. This remix paved her way into an amazing relationship with Chris Liebing’s label CLR, where she debuted her “Cycles EP” in 2013. Her dark, strong and driven sound was met by a wider audience and they loved it. The ball kept rolling from there on. Rebekah released numerous tracks & EP’s on labels like CLR, her own Decoy Records, MORD, SOMA, Coincidence Records and her new imprint Elements. 

Rebekah has played at BASIS numerous times now and we’re happy to have hosted her only Dutch allnighter this year. She’s an amazing artist and even more amazing person. Enjoy this excerpt of her all night long set in BASIS and be prepared for a banging hour of this power woman.

Berlin’s Monnom Black is back again with the King of The Sewers EP; four cuts of pulsating techno from two of electronic music’s most uncompromising young figures, DAX J & UVB. Already well-known for its more fundamentally rugged take on modern electronics, the label’s 19th release is another intense transmission deep from the underworld.

The menacing tone of the EP hides the friendship that’s developed between these adopted Berliners, two young men who met in the city and discovered a shared passion for raw analogue audio and electronic sounds that marry starkness with depth. Although they began DJing at the same warehouses since 2014, the duo have waited until the right moment to bring together their mutual love of unique mechanised noisescapes and the high-end production values they’ve developed over years of experience and experimentation. The King of The Sewers is that record, a gritty soundtrack inspired by forgotten lives beneath eastern-bloc cities.

For Monnom Black this latest release continues a run of unmistakable techno records that challenge the mainstream with a non-conformist philosophy. The label’s ethos is to push boundary-testing music by artists who are unafraid to explore a chaotic, divided world in the belief that distinctive music can still create moments of grace and community. This is music for the deepest, darkest parts of the night, breaking beyond the dancefloor and into the liminal spaces where analogue and digital, body and mind meet. The King of The Sewers EP represents another step forward in the development of a record label pressing at the borders of what contemporary techno can be.
