The scrambling divides a loop into smaller chunks. These chunks are then randomly reordered during playback.

This is a manifesto for a new kind of ambient music that is not entirely relaxing. I call it TransAmbient.

TransAmbient is a genre of ambient music that intends to awaken a higher state of consciousness through an inner work that requires deep listening. The listener is on a journey of (self) discovery and awakening to the subtle forces and feelings in the world. This consciousness is freed from ego, and therefore freed from the listener's attempt to find only good feelings. This consciousness sees the world directly, and hears it directly.

TransAmbient is short for Transcendental Ambient. What makes the music transcendental? Ambient music intends to be a pleasant background that does not stir the listener but may draw them into a meditative state. It is generally a pleasant sound. TransAmbient creates a floating state of consciousness that is neither tense nor relaxed – or perhaps it is both simultaneously. It does not prefer good or bad feelings that result from the listening. Constantly changing harmony include all harmonies, happy and sad, suspenseful and resolved, a balance of sound that reflects a balanced consciousness and way of being. The rhythm, pacing, and space the music inhabits, is based on the interaction of the kinetic inner rhythms of our bodies (heartbeat, breath, movement) with rhythms and sound-space found in nature. The presence of high frequencies seeks to activate hyper-awareness and sensitivity to discreet sounds. To enter the stream of this music, you must empty the mind and forget about yourself and your thoughts.

This music demands your attention, with a goal to heighten your attention, and deepen your awareness of breath and inner work. It's pace and sound-evolution will guide you. This is not music to accompany an activity: it is the activity. After listening to a track, you may find yourself simultaneously relaxed and yet experiencing increased heart rate due to a flow of feelings during the listening. This is normal. It reminds me of the practice of Tai Chi, which leaves the practitioner relaxed but alert, and simultaneously tired and energized.
