This is the first piece completed while learning Tracktion Waveform Pro 11. Almost all sounds are created using the excellent free Spitfire Audio Instruments. The ethereal mystical nature of some of the LBS instruments worked well for this piece of music. There are also percussion loops, sound effects and ambient lake sounds of water and a guitar-esque theme played on a Ibanez PNB14EOPN acoustic Parlor Bass Guitar.

The piece came about because a friend and I were talking about how man-made lakes seem to be lacking something. Many lakes in North America have native American names for the spirit in the lake. Many are simply called spirit lake. In Japanese mythology there are the 'Suijin' (literally: water people or water deity) which are the lake guardians.

My friend and I came to the conclusion that man-made lakes were simply not ancient enough to have developed lake spirit/guardians thus  seem to be 'missing something'.

I think some of the lake spirits are big like Tolkien's Ents. Lake Michigan and Florida's lake Okeechobee have those big ones. Other lakes have small sprites or fairies. How do you see them?

Use this music as a sound track for your imagination and watch some lake spirits arrive and pass by you and see some break into a whimsical dance represented by the bassoon.

Made with Tracktion Waveform 12 and a old laptop. I wrote a melody for a classical piece that I liked and stupidly decided to present it in the least effective most annoying way possible. This track was mostly made for background music to carve wooden boats and spoons to. Some samples are from Spitfire LABS Fog Horn Instrument and cello moods.

I have always liked the sound of the Emergency Broadcast Alarm. So chewy and gritty making the speaker sound like it was going to blow up the radio in my parents car. It seems it was always interrupting the vanilla soft top 40 pop radio of my childhood, snarling with an unwelcome reminder of the constant dangers lurking in the world. Or rearing its ugly head in the middle of an after school special or a summer rerun on TV. And I've always wondered why nobody thought to sample it and make an EDM with it. Well it turns out, according to you tube anyway, other people have messed with it quite a bit........ And it turns out most countries have their own unique Emergency Broadcast Warning sound. I included a couple within this piece.

Most of this is based on a variation on a C minor blues form although it does go to an F major quasi-montuno blues-esque romp near the end of the piece which adds a bit of hope to the underlying bleakness of the whole dern mess. It also continues with my experiments using hidden modulation as it ends up a whole step higher by the end.
