Midnight Confessions - The Grass Roots

After recording "Midnight Confessions" by the Grass Roots, I thought I'd give another one of their songs a try.

As usual, I used my Korg Kronos for the drums, keys and horns.  I also used my Ibanez Joe Satriani through a Fender Chorus and an Ibanez Road Star Bass.

This is my 2nd favorite Brian Wilson song.  Great harmonies that were tricky to pick out at first.  I am a tiny bit out of tune in places, but so what . . . 

I sampled the initial drum intro and loop it through the whole song. Otherwise, I used an Ovation 12-string, an Ibanez bass and my Kronos!

This Daryl Hall song was pretty hard to sing for me!

It was fun picking out the parts by ear. Daryl Hall always uses very cool chord phrasing.

Really underrated single from Julian Lennon.   I used my Korg Kronos, an Ibanez joe Satriani guitar (through a Fender Ultimate Chorus)and an Ibanez Road Star Bass.  I also used a Fender Crybaby wah during the chorus (though I prefer a Vox Wah)

My father joined me for the clapping.

Also, the solo was tricky since my acoustic does not have a cutaway and every note was above the 12th fret. That made for interesting playing!  Enjoy!

This is a beautiful Brian Wilson song from the "Holland" album.  it was sung by Blondie Chaplin, who was a member of the band for a few years in the early 70's. I hope I did it justice.

So many vocal tracks, it was hard to keep track of them!

This is a George Harrison song from 1979.  It's the first time I have really used a slide, so bear with me.  Also, this song turned out to be really hard for me to sing in tune!!

This is a hidden gem!  It was written by Dennis Wilson and appeared on the 1970 album SUNFLOWER.    Do yourself a favor and find the original.  Make sure it is the version sung by Dennis Wilson and not John Stamos!!!!

For this song, I am using an Ovation 12-string, my Ibanez Road Star bass and the slide was done with my PRS SE Custom.  Everything else (including the recording) was done on my Korg Kronos.

This is from Leonard Bernstein's "Mass."   My voice isn't what it used to be, but I am proud of the arrangement I did by ear using a piano reduction and the original soundtrack. I hope I didn't miss anything.

I definitely have some pitch issues!  You can also hear me struggle to hit some notes but I don't care!   :-)
