Although life in NY may be tough at times, it has made its inhabitants develop a level of unconditional love for their home. When you combine this love with the hustle that it takes to survive as an artist in these streets, well then you're officially on your New York sh*t. For the latest release taken from T.H.E.M. Recordings Killin' the Game compilation, Brooklyn's Innocent? connects with Q-Borough's Nutso with "On Our NY Sh*t" for a track that plays out like an all-city anthem. The laid back instrumental which is reminiscent of something you'd find in your parents record stash, sets the stage for both artists to detail their history and love for the city so nice, they named it twice. Brooklyn, New York City. Home of fancy coffee shops, expensive condominiums, and trendy neighborhoods. But in 1995, Brooklyn was not synonymous for “gentrification.” Back then, Rudy Giuliani was Mayor of New York and he was in the midst of a serious war against crime. In 1995, Giuliani’s New York registered its lowest crime rate since the 1970s. From 1,156 homicides then to roughly 300 homicides now, the Big Apple has come a long way.

In the heart of Brooklyn stood the “Doghilee,” stomping ground for the crew known as the Boot Camp Clik. BCC, which helped spearhead New York’s hardcore rap scene, was comprised of four unique groups: Black Moon, Smif N Wessun, Heltah Skeltah, and O.G.C. Emerging with Black Moon’s seminal debut album, Enta Da Stage, BCC cemented their status with Smif N Wessun’s debut, Dah Shinin.

Released January 10, 1995, Dah Shinin is celebrated for the synergy between Smif N Wessun’s two members, Tek and Steele, and the cohesive, gritty production courtesy of Da Beatminerz. In 1998, The Source placed the album in its list of 100 Best Rap Albums.

What You're about to hear is Tek and Steele take us through the backstory and the making of their quintessential classic. They talk about:

- Their relationships with Biggie and Tupac
- Going to high school with Maxwell and Sean Price
- Being inspired by the work of Roy Ayers
- And what the Doghilee actually was.

About the album:
From Columbus and Pittsburgh, so many flyers had been distributed that it was almost impossible to take a step without noticing those abandoned on the sidewalk. 
Drawn in an anarchic way, cables ran along the streets to the place requisitioned for the event. It was necessary to feed the walls of speakers which, in due course, would spit heavy basses and would make the dancers go wild. In the surrounding stores, the first suspicious disappearances of spraycans had been reported, one could see B-Boys pass a lino roll under the arm. 

Sparkling sneakers and dance sequences, scratching and beat juggling, throw up and burning, everyone knew what he was doing there since the duo Lone Catalysts had announced the color: CULTURE was going to celebrate the Hip Hop in its five declensions. From graffiti to beatboxing, from deejaying to dancing with, above the debates, its most visible part of all: RAP. 

Swiftly using the scalpel in his collection of jazz, soul and funk records, distributing the strikes on his MPC, J. Rawls had given furiously organic colors to his 90s productions full of asperities. In his book, J. Sands' rhymes were all devoted to glorious, immortal, competitor and competitive Hip Hop. 

In all the streets around, everyone had tagged in red the date of the monumental block-party: November 17, 2017.
