Optimo Music release BOOT & TAX’s eponymous debut album on June 1st. 


After two sold out 12" EPs on Optimo Trax, Boot & Tax head over to mother label Optimo Music for the release of their debut self-titled, 9-track album.

The Milanese duo are comprised of Cristian Croce (already part of The Barking Dogs) and Claudio Brioschi (Brioski), two of the most popular and respected djs/producers of the Italian scene who share a great passion for analog synths and experimentation, and a deep knowledge of both clubbing and production.

Dance albums are notoriously difficult to pull off and often fall flat but Boot & tax succeed where many fail by making a record that will work on open-minded dance floors but isn't necessarily a dance album. Incorporating Claudio's guitar playing, Boot & Tax's trademark eccentric instrumentation along with their analogue arsenal and the occasional vocal from Cristian, they have managed to forge a uniquely characteristic sound world.

Playful, psychedelic, hypnotic and captivating, the album comes in an instant design classic of a gatefold sleeve illustrted by Gianni Ludico, on double vinyl. Boot & Tax will be touring live in support of the record throughout the summer and beyond.

On today's Radio Discostan we present an hour of music from Bangkok's Arab-Malay scene assembled by Peter Doolan of Monrakplengthai. In these songs, we hear Thai pop/rock sounds layered among rhythms, melodies and textures from throughout the Muslim world. Influences from Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, Lebanon, and India are all discernable in the mix.

Thai Arab-Malay acts had their heyday in the '70s and '80s entertaining cosmopolitan visitors from the ummah on "Soi Arab" (Sukhumvit Lane 3/1), and popular nightlife bands of the era have remained a staple at mosque fairs and other cultural events around the central provinces ever since.

The selections in this set are primarily digitized from cassettes that were for sale at Phrakhanong's Yanavy Tape & Video or from various second-hand vendors around the capital.Peter Doolan covers the world of Thai music on cassette at monrakplengthai.blogspot.com.
