Friday Night Lights was released on November 12, 2010, it serves as J. Cole’s third official mixtape and was released to help hold over fans until his debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story released.

The title of the project is a reference to the movie with the same name, which premiered in 2004 and is about a high school team and coach from Texas and their rise and fall.

J.Cole The Warm Up (Full Mixtape 2009)

“2012” was an unreleased song recorded in 2008 during Cole’s The Warm Up recording sessions. This song is primarily a response to the movie 2012 which was released in early 2009.

2009 sets place during the end of the world as a series of global disasters threaten to annihilate mankind. This was predicted with the Long Court calendar which was used by several Mesoamerican cultures, particularly the Mayans.

Ironically, Cole responded with this song a few hours before the world was predicted to end, December 21st. He wasn’t going to let us die without hearing some new music!

The History Of J. Cole By Young Piano (OneTake)

Mystic Brew" was written by Ronnie Foster and released on his 1972 debut album "The Two Headed Freap." It has since been has been sampled by many artists including A Tribe Called Quest for "Electric Relaxation" and J. Cole on "Forbidden Fruit."

Almost 45 years later on October 4, 2016, he collaborated with Las Vegas based Hip Hop/ Fusion group: Maxwell Fresh to recreate his timeless and influential song.
