Have you heard Rodriguez Jr.'s 'Persistence Of Vision' EP on Mobilee Records? If not, you better. It's four tracks of erratic and sizzling house, the kind he's been championing over the years. 

The French producer released it on Anja Schneider's Mobilee Records, the same label he released his thumping, full-of-good-vibes debut album 'Bittersweet' on in 2011. 

While the Marc Romboy collaboration 'Picnic Electronique' collaboration has come between then and now, Olivier Mateu is back on Anja's label with the three-track 'Chrysalism' EP at the end of this week.

'Iyewaye', Oliver Koletzki’s first release after the autobiographical I AM OK album, introduced a new facet of the artist’s sound. The EP catered to a darker and more raw aesthetic, a direction followed and deepened by the four remixes. First up is the title track 'Iyewaye', turned into a lengthy tech infused introspection by Hatzler. Loosely centered around the initial vocals, Loco & Jam’s makeover explores the track’s captivating snappy narrative. The more rhythm focused 'Ipuza' gets a special treatment from Hidden Empire who dial up the aggression of the percussion. Zakari & Blange downplay the track’s initial exotic elements, focusing on the rattling synths and giving it a late-night dancefloor rework.

Remcord composed another pair of heavy-hitting weapons with a style of his own, entering in a dialogue between the human and the machine. 'Yota' is an energetic and shaky dancefloor hammer featuring twisted melodies, live recorded percussions and oriental sounding vocals in Kurdish, finding its momentum with a profound break. 'Koto' consists of an electric journey whose harmonious melodies are punctuated by percussive drums and mesmerizing sonorities and contribute to a particular depth and richness. The last track of the EP is a chilled yet rhythmically accompanied remix of 'Yota' by Echonomist, who extends the musical path bringing his own touch.

Number twenty on San Francisco’s Manjumasi is the second solo artist EP from label co-founder atish. With the Warbler EP, atish presents a pair of original tracks that showcase strange and unique melodic stylings across two distinct energy levels, both featuring eerie and compelling string sounds with heavy use of creative effects. The title track, Warbler, has a solid late-night dance floor groove with a lush and haunting synth line anchoring the mid-range groove. Abyss takes things deeper, again veering into eerie sonic territories with vocal pads floating throughout the mix. This one sits in a more restrained rhythmic territory, well suited to the mood-setting opening hours.

The package features three top-notch remixes from a collection of very serious producers. Sweden’s Dorisburg turns in an incredibly heady interpretation of Abyss, with sparkling glassy pads juxtaposed against a bouncing synth bassline. Melodic master Rodriguez Jr. takes Warbler in a different direction, weaving the original elements into a tapestry of his signature arpeggios and synth crescendos. Lastly, Fort Romeau turns in an energetic Warbler mix, anchored by a long-building stabby bassline that develops into a real acid-tinged driver.

Our first release on Motek for 2020 and it is a big one. Having delivered two huge remixes for the label, Martin Landsky is back with three track original EP 'Attitude' which includes Original and Acid Mix of the title track, and b-side 'Leipzig House'.
Attitude is perfect for finding your dance floor feet. Full of classic House orchestration from the warm keys texture, the bouncy bass line and 808 style hats. The track has added mystery within its lead line which adds contrast to the mix and is finished with the spoken vocal.
The Acid Mix of Attitude is darker and brings more weight, perfect for the later hour. The sharp acid lead cuts through a production still steeped in groove and syncopation. A mix to get in your own zone and get lost too.
Leipzig House as with the original of Attitude also has strong classic Deep House sounds. An evolving and warping bass line drives the track within a spacious mix allowing the syncopating groove to have maximum impact.
Remixing on this release we firstly welcome back Morninglasses who have put their magic to Attitude. Working with the core values and genre of the original, their take has a faster feel driven by 16th note hi hats and though the addition of airy and floaty pad lines. They have also applied clever use of the vocal as a textural element.
Stevie R and Orange Dodo have put their touch to Leipzig House. Dark and haunting in places essentially created through the long release almost drone bass part. Crisp wood and metallic textures make up the interplaying lead elements, as clever use of the original parts forge a totally unique experience of the original.
Delfin has joined the duo to create a dub version that has the same core arrangement but with certain sections toned down to keep the remix moving on a deeper plain. A bass synth builder is added and the track is given an unexpected peak through a vocal surprise.

The Techno Beast Podcast 002

Techno don Reinier Zonneveld looks set for a massive hit with his latest track, which reworks the stunning melody made famous by PPK’s 1998 smash ‘Resurrection’. 

Zonneveld made his remix of the trance classic to play in his live sets, and it proved to be so popular that he felt it simply had to be released. He and his team set about trying to find the rightsholder of the original melody so that they could license it. 

This journey led them not to PPK, but to the original composer: the now 82 year old Russian electronic music pioneer, Edward Artemiev. He wrote the melody for the soundtrack of a 1979 movie called ‘Siberiade’. Zonneveld wrote him a letter asking if he could grant him permission to release his take on the melody. Listening to Reinier’s new interpretation of ‘Resurrection’, Artemiev was immediately sold and approved it to release. 

One of the earliest composers to adopt the synthesiser, Artemiev has a pioneering legacy that lives on through this new version that has been so skilfully crafted by Zonneveld. 

Moving on to the track itself. Pummeling old skool hardcore techno kicks thump under filtered layers of bubbling synths as an ominous tone is set early on. The melodic elements tease in tense fashion as layers of hissing percussion build on top. Flashes of the distinctive riff are sparingly deployed. Then suddenly the swell comes, rising pads and dramatic synth riffs fuelling the fire as cymbal rides urge us forward. Snare rolls and acidic textures build the tension further before the rug is pulled from under us and we’re thrust into the dream-like sounds of that famous riff. 

Sounding as enchanting and otherworldly as ever, these cute interweaving melodic lines soon transport you to another dimension. Filtered kick drums and heavily reverbed pad sounds interplay with percussive builds and rising acid tones, suggesting an explosive drop. Instead, the minimal approach is chosen, stripping the track down to its bare melodic basics and letting the famous hook shine. Further glorious melodic subtleties lift the track again and snare rolls push higher, but the track never reaches for excess and continues to tease throughout.

Resurrection is out now on Filth On Acid.
