Taking the risk to repeat myself, I am always amazed about the roots and triggers of inspiration in general and in music for me. Sometimes, it’s obvious, sometimes, it’s a mix of a thousands things. In any case, it’s not always easy to identify, but usually funny to recognize! For this song, here are some hints...

Of course, as you can guess from its name, first is the city of Montreux itself… beautifully nestled between steep Alps hills and peaceful lakeside of Lac Leman: local, exotic, relaxing and creative all together.

Then, still talking about this town, less about its landscape and more about its world famous July's Montreux Jazz Festival, it leads to the second inspiration: Deep Purple' Smoke on the Water. Yes, sure, you know the story. If not, you should!

Also, the style of this track has been greatly shaped upon the influence of fabulous @AcuteInflections: yes, I like that "velvety mix of Erykah Badu & Billie Holiday paired with the cool grooves of her 007 on bass" of those 2 New Yorkers!

And finally, regarding 18:20? I'm sure you will figure it out by yourself...

But, still, the path from the initial idea to the song you can hear now was long. The few basic tones crystallized from a small game I do play to warm up my fingers on the guitar, moving it from warming-guitar-tone-exercise to piano/contrabass based track was pretty fun, but it wasn’t enough. Something was missing and there I got help from Blaž Pavšič, who produced the final version of the track, supplementing it with awesome percussion.

Hope you will find the outcome of this collaboration as nice as I do. You better do, as I can promise it's won’t be the only one ;-)

Fantasy for Piano, F-sharp minor
Like in the case of my previous ballade, the main theme is one of my oldest one, written on a guitar almost two decades ago, in a secluded house, when I took guitar lessons with my friends under a guise of a senior, eccentric professor who was probably semi-drunk every single lesson.
It came almost seamlessly and it never left my mind, and finally it found a satisfactory growth and expression in a piano composition.
Paul Anthony Romero made spontaneously numerous improvisations on it (He received it with a bunch of other musical themes), and a lot of those variations ended here as a homage to him, as this work is dedicated to him.
Initially the theme was planned as an initial statement in a nocturne I was writing, preceding the main theme, but after Paul's suggestion I separated the two distinct themes and decided it was best to let them grow separately.
The fact that I developed one of my oldest melodies with a superb composer and pianist, and a musical inspiration since high-school, makes me beyond blessed and happy.
The watercolour artwork, like in all other released compositions, is done by Vanja Kalemba.

This track is about when life keeps throwing lemons at you and then it just seems too difficult to overcome this. Efforts to try and stay positive becomes a real challenge. The world around you begins to crumble and you feel hopeless.
It is about loss of your dreams and never reaching them. This relates to a day when it is windy, birds singing in the trees and raining with thunder. It is a soothing melancholic track which sets the mood for an inspiring feelings of ranging bittersweet emotions. It is also a calming relaxing track.

Introduction and Lyrics in English:

The ghost forest really does exist on the German Baltic coast. Over the centuries, the beech, oak and ash trees have taken on bizarre shapes due to the Baltic wind and the many storms. To me, they look like bent, crooked figures that seem to be on the run from the recurring storms. 
As almost all the trees have only one crown and are completely bare underneath, they also give me the impression that they have shut themselves off from the fury of the storms and withdrawn into themselves.
In my imagination, the storms stand for the inner ghosts or demons that more or less haunt everyone rarely, sometimes often or always at night.  
For me, the trees in turn symbolize the sometimes panic-like fears and the need to flee when the inner ghosts appear.   
At the same time, in my mind the trees also stand for the great achievement of some people who nevertheless live and continue to live under the impression of permanent demonic inner storms: Admittedly somehow crooked, slanted and crooked; but nevertheless in a marvelous way peculiar, unmistakable and original.
This is the background against which the song ""Ghostly Forest"" was created.

So I had an instrumental track called 'The Mural' I said I would put some vocals to.  Without re-arranging the track too much this is what I came up with.  This is no longer a song about a Mural.  I went dark instead!  I cannot remove the hissing from the Guitar Tracks... despite my best efforts.  Hopefully the rest will make up for it!

Metamorphosis

I love to sing with my guitar. Love to play my guitar and sing.
I practice Zen too, so sometimes I combine traditional Zen Buddhist chants with guitar instrumentals that I have composed; other times, I just sing a folk or popular song that resonates with me.
June 24 2024 marked the release of ShoSaiMyo Vol.1, first released on Bandcamp. It features Five of the Zen and Sutras playlist songs that Brad Stock produced and engineered at Painted Sky Studios. Deutscher Singer-Songwriter über fünfzig Jahre alt. Seit fast vierzig Jahren schreibe und singe ich Lieder. Mein Hauptinstrument ist die akustische Gitarre, aber ich mag auch Perkussionsinstrumente (Cajon, Maracas, Gurio). Ich liebe es, melancholische und poetische Balladen zu komponieren. Aber manchmal schreibe ich auch (schwarze) humorvolle Songs, Jazzstyle und -Rocksongs. Meine Hauptsprache ist Deutsch. Aber in Zukunft will ich mehr Songs auf Englisch und vereinzelt auch Französisch schreiben.
In meinen Kompositionen bin ich inspiriert von Leonard Cohen, John Lennon, Jacques Brel, Van Morrison und Bob Dylan. Auf meinen Platten spiele und singe ich alles alleine. Meine Vision für die Zukunft ist es, Musiker aus verschiedenen Kulturen zu finden, die gerne ihre Tracks mit mir teilen wollen.

German singer-songwriter over fifty years old. For almost forty years I have been writing and singing songs. My main instrument is the acoustic guitar, but I also like percussion instruments (Cajon, Maracas, Gurio). I love composing melancholic and poetic ballads. But sometimes I also write (black) humorous songs, jazz style and rock songs. My main language is German. But in the future I want to write more songs in English and occasionally also in French.
In my compositions I am inspired by Leonard Cohen, John Lennon, Jacques Brel, Van Morrison and Bob Dylan. On my records I play and sing all by myself. My vision for the future is to find musicians from different cultures who would like to share their tracks with me.
