This song represents what many people go through as they grow up...fear of rejection. The character in this song has been rejected to the point where he/she is afraid to ask someone to dance. For some, people that can get someone to dance may lead to a romance and that is also the fear of rejection. We sometimes think asking someone to dance could be more than a dance and when we make that dance so important, the rejection can be worse. That's just my opinion.
