“We were in an angry state of mind when we made these tracks. It began around the same time the US condemned Syria and Assad for the use of chemical weapons. The events took us back to the Halabje chemical attack in Kurdistan, Iraq, where exactly 30 years ago, Saddam, with the blind support of the West, killed between 3000-5,000 and injured 7,000-10,000, mostly Kurdish civilians. Have we not learned anything? It feels like history is less a source for understanding and growth, and more so to be exploited, mined, in search of tactics that are sure to cause havoc on humanity. These tracks are dedicated to the next generation of Muslim kids who are left feeling sad, frightened, angry.”

Saint Abdullah is the sound project of Iranian-Canadian brothers, Mohammad and Mehdi. Motivated by the history of Western misconception and opposition towards Muslims and the Islamic Faith, they began writing music to serve as "cultural translators,” with the goal of challenging stereotypes, acting as “a conduit between unnecessary enemies." 'Stars Have Eyes' is their 2nd album – a weaponized narrative of field recordings from the streets of Tehran transformed into hulking instruments of information, then sunk into a dreadscape of sub frequencies and foreboding echo chamber clatter.

I would like to thank Ewelina and Dan (from @bazel-detritus) from the bottom of my heart for this huge opportunity, I love them (and their music) a lot and I am forever in debt to them. 👼 Ever since I started making music I wished I would one day work with a singer with a godlike, ethereal voice and I am moved that I have had an opportunity in my life to try it. We have a longer version for our biggest fans 💚
At the beginning, I was hesitating whether I should accept the offer because I had vast respect and fear that I could never even come close to the genius of the original track, but I could not miss the chance...
So I sat in my studio, listened to the original for like 10 times, then I cut out everything except the vocals, I listened to the vocals in a loop for some time and imagined, what sounds should be there to make it fit.
Then I searched for the right instruments and then I worked... 😀

ZULI’s new offering Trigger Finger is a game of shadowy atmospheres and unquiet spirits. It functions as a spacial and temporal compactor, using sampling and field recordings to reconstruct reality’s dissonance, while at the same time reverse its own introspective character into bass weight and outworked tension. A kind of extremization of ZULI’s own roots as a beatmaker for the Cairo rap scene, tinged with the clandestine and delirious urbanism of grime and jungle, and fronted by the necessity to face its own dark side. But the dark and crusty sonic palette does not limit the possibility for the tracks to display various layers of emotional content.

Meo, pseudonym of Daniele Mei, is a cosmic dj from Rimini, Italy. Fine Corsa was his first record, released in 1985. In those days Meo was active in what was later considered to be the most famous Afro Dance Club in Italy: Melody Mecca. This release is an intensely creative hybrid of many styles and many colors. Even up until the present day this record continues to be very important in some preeminent European clubs. Now remastered by Brandenburg.

Boiler Room and Ballantine’s True Music partnership returns, taking one step further with the Hybrid Sounds project. Working alongside some of the most engaging live electronic acts in the world, we’ll travel to Moscow, Sao Paulo, Beirut and Valencia, on a journey that will explore the links between acoustic and electronic music, uncovering what can occur when these two distinct styles collide.

On each city visited, the artists collaborate on new original material for our next True Music EP — a record that catalogues the exciting sounds captured throughout this project. First up is Moscow, where Overmono, comprised of brothers Truss and Tessela, collaborated with Russian saxophonist, Solo Operator. 

The final production, “Foggy Albion,” sees the acoustic tones of Solo Operator’s saxophone dessicated and immersed in a haunting ambient hinterland crafted by Overmono. The six-minute track further expands on the sonic universe Overmono have explored on their output thus far.

“Sacha completely changed my perception of how a  saxophone can be played, it was inspiring working with someone so dedicated to their music”, Overmono’s Truss reveals on what appealed about the Hybrid Sounds project.

Flowers From The Ashes is the latest multi-artist project to bear the acclaimed Stroboscopic Artefacts imprimatur. There is a sensibility of decadence and corroded grandeur etched within its four album sides, reminding us that historically “decadent” times have nonetheless resulted in some of the boldest acts of individual and collective creativity. Like the "floral" theme that has remained a consistent feature of S.A.’s graphic presentation, the music here equally presents fragility and intensity in a way that really drives home this visual metaphor for good, while still holding out the promise that similar creations will be seeded in the near future.

Though many of the artists involved have set of residence outside of their native Italy, all contribute here to make a captivating portrait of a shared spirit and cultural memory. The album opens with 'Errori', deceptively fragile sonic ornaments crafted and suspended in space by Blackest Ever Black artist Silvia Kastel. This is followed closely by the mellifluous, warming glow of percussionist Andrea Belfi’s 'Spitting & Skytouching', and then by the resolute electric bass patterns and luminous fog of 'Lux et Sonus', from Eeri label head Marco Shuttle. Hospital Productions alumnus Ninos du Brasil open the B-side with a similarly dense, amorphous construction built from tribalistic chants and rhythmic patterns, to be followed by Mannequin label boss Alessandro Adriani’s 'You Will Not Be There For The End', showcasing his distinctive take on the "paranoiac breakdance" aesthetic of classic EBM. S.A. veteran Chevel rounds out the first record in the program by interlacing several percolating synth lines together into a richly conversational piece.

The journey continues with 'Starving The Mind', an undulating mini-epic from S.A. founder Lucy that is animated by his signature balance of seductiveness and concentration. The bright, biting acid synth tones of 'PRV-HH3-X', by Lory D, then takes a sharp right turn into an invisible metropolis ruled by reflective high fashion and hidden intrigue. The imposing architecture of 'Virgo Rebellion', designed by modular synth futurist Caterina Barbieri, acts as an excellent companion piece, and sets up the closing '4G' from Spazio Disponibile co-founder Neel - a crepuscular serenade that accurately sums up much of the foregoing activity.
