I am just a bedroom DJ that loves music. 
Here is a detailed walk down memory lane to discover where it all started. A 10 part tribute to the Electronic Music, the cradle for the Dance Music movement we have today.  
16 months of research, crate digging and spending about $1200 on Discogs, beatport, Bandcamp and the like.
I broke it up into relevant themes for better blending of various styles and genres. There’s still a mistake or two in there. 
Included in here is the birth of Electro, House, Techno, Trance, Breaks and much more. Styles that were big and then tapered along the way such as Industrial, New Beat, Synth Pop, Avant Gard and the like that influenced the music of today.

An 80's DJ Underground Manifesto - 10 Part series

The decade ends with the music crossing borders and oceans, It is spreading across the globe and young new artists all over the world are making fantastic music, changing the sound of the genres and elevating the dancefloors to new heights. The movment has entrenched itself across the globe.

This set includes debuts from KLF, Oliver Lieb, Jeff Mills and Coldcut. The three parts focus on the Pre-Trance, Industrial Techno, Breaks and Electro of the late 80's. Breakbeat influences that drift into the creation of Breaks, Jungle influences. The sound of UR years before they formed. Trance influences are taking shape.

80s DJ - Part 10 [1987-1989] : Worldwide Techno

A one hour set that plays tribute to the Acid house revolution of the late 80's, known as the 'Second Summer Of Love'. Ecstasy met music, the ignition triggered a social explosion that changed the world forever. Peace, Love, Unity, Respect. 

Thank you to the Acid House movement, it laid the foundation for our culture to explode to all corners of the world.

80s DJ Part 9 [1988-1989] The Second Summer Of Love

Stuck home in ISO, I decided to pull out the most unused records in my collection and have a play. I don't listen to trance anymore, but I figured I'd play these records that haven't been used in a while. Some of them have not been played in 15yrs or so. 

The Sound of the Raves in Adelaide and Sydney parties I would go to in the Mid 1990's. This is what my youth sounded like. Hard Acid Trance and Hard Acid Techno. This is where it all started with me, back as a teenager. This is Trance way before PVD changed the sound, the real early Belgian influenced stuff.

(In this record I am just drinking scotch and playing records from 20+ years ago)

This was a really fun recording. I'm no pro-DJ, but this was a good blast down memory lane.

Time Machine #03 - 90s Classic Acid Trance

The second half of my collection. The slower, lower tempo stuff. I tried to make it work, once again there's a couple of slips but I am just happy to let these records be used again.

Mixing over 128 beats is not that easy either.

Throwing together all the emotional, proggy sounds I have from the 90s into one mix. Turned out OK, not perfect but OK.

Time Machine #01 - 90s Progressive House

Over a few drinks at home, I have created a tribute set of the early Electro monster hits I have in my collection. This is set is made of LP's, EP's, FLAC and mp3's so you could call it a hybrid mix. 

Nothing fancy, just quick & snappy transitions. It's about the tracks, not the mixing after all.

Time Machine #02 - 80's Electro

Here is a bedroom mix of my growing 80s House collection. The last 5 years I have been crate digging all over the world feeding my love of 80s Dance music.

I have grouped these tracks to be in chronological order, starting from 1984 and the journey through to 1989 for the dawn of a new decade. 

We start out with some of the first house records ever made and then transcend through Jackin House, Hip House and then Acid House being made for Europe's second summer of love revolution.

This is the music of the Music Box, Playground, Hacienda and beyond. The Music of Ron Hardy, Jesse Saunders, Farley, Adonis, Marshall Jefferson, and more.

I end the mix with a House remix of a techno track, a reflection of where my tastes drift towards in the 1990s as techno develops and grows.

100% 80's records. (1980-1983)

This is the era of caught between the 'Post-Disco' and 'Proto-House' music scenes of the 80's. Clubbing went back underground. Artists and Producers were experimenting with Synthesizers and Experimental Beats were being made across the world. 

The Hair, The Clothes, The Drugs, The Music. This is the real Underground music scene very few know about. 

Think Scarface, think Studio 54, Think Paradise Garage, Think the Warehouse, think Blue Oyster Bar whatever...  Real Miami Vice style

80s DJ Part 1 [1980-1983]: Boogie & Post-Disco

100% 80's records.  (1981-1983)

Across the USA a new DJ sound was evolving, Graffitti, breaking, rapping. DJ Like Grandmaster Flash and the like were mega-stars of a new style of music. 

This is a not a Rap Mix, but more of an Electro mix. Focused on the sounds and beats of the time, less about the lyrics. Bouncing Ghetto Music to make you rock. 

Mixing isnt perfect. If you love the bouncy legit 80's electro this is a tribute to the sound and tempo. 50 mins of some of my favs from this era.

80's DJ Part 2 [1981-1983]: 100% Rock Steady

100% 80's records. (1980-1983)

A combination of sounds that influence Electronic music today, including the first recognised Techno and Electro tracks ever made. 

This is a fusion of sounds from various walks of life from all over the world. Electronic Music was being produced and random locations by random people that had one common love of new technology and new sounds. There was no rules. Kraftwerk meets Detroit, Paul McCartney meets Munich, Yello meets New Order

Not a perfect mix due to the age and quality of the masters, tempo moves around a lot. Im just a Bedroom DJ. Nothing Special.

80's DJ Part 3 [1980-1983]: Avant Garde

The next Chapter of my 80's journey. (1984-1986)

I researched the roots and beginning of the revolution that was House. My plan was to buy the first 50 records ever released that were labelled House and walk back in time to the era of Music Box and Warehouse. It's not easy getting some of these records now, and rare to find them in great conditions. This is a mix of Vinyl and Electronic tracks. It's not a perfect mix, but I did my best with what I have.

The Chicago Music scene exploded. Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy had created something special in the clubs, inspiring the likes of Jesse Saunders, Adonis, Chip E and many more to start making records for their own scene. 

The rest is history. This is a tribute to the pioneers, back when it was a local Scene. The UK had not discovered this music yet, but when they did it created a revolution. 

This music triggered the Belleville Three to start making House music for Detroit and later on we see how that went.

The oldest of Old school House you can find. The garden of Eden.

80's DJ Part 5 [1984-1986]: The Birth Of House

A tribute to the age where Electro and Rap were almost one in the same. Tracks from NYC, Chicago, Detroit and LA.

The golden age of Rap and Electro. These two genres were still entwined closely together and compatible to be mixed together well. The Music was still made for the Dancefloor and for fun.

Ice-T's first record, The west coast USA electro funk scene with the Unknown DJ, Model 500's first solo record and many more forgotten stars are included within.

80s DJ Part 4 [1984-1985]: The Electro Ghettoblaster

Part 6: (1984-1987)

Time to honour the European Club Music before the House Revolution took over. In the cities and holiday spots around the Western world, Synth Pop, Italo Disco, Freestyle and the like was everywhere. The Revolution born out of Chicago had not yet spanned the world. Most of these are the Dub & Instrumental version's of 80's Clubbing Synth Pop and the like. Rock was being replaced by the Synth sound and Melodies.

80s DJ Part 6 [1984-1987]: Euro Synth Pop and other Niceties

Part 7: (1987-1989)
The House Hotmix. In honour of the imfamous 'HotMix 5' of Chicago's radio station WBMX. 

While Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy brought House Music to the clubs they played at, the Hotmix 5 transmitted House Music all across Chicago, dominating the airwaves and playing to Millions. These guys were vital to the growth and explosion of House Music to the larger Audience. Local producers and sounds from afar were being played fresh from the studio to the masses hungry for more. 

House Music was out of the bag now, spreading beyond the club scene where it was invented. It was spreading through the USA, It is now being played in clubs in the UK. This is the latter stage of the 'First Wave of House', before the Acid Revolution, Ecstasy Culture and Global phenomenon changes it's course forever.

80s DJ Part 7 [1987-1989] : The House Hotmix

This is a tribute to the Artists and Labels of Detroit. The first wave of the Detroit Sound emerged in the Mid-80s from the Belleville three. Techno of today was influenced by the shape and sound these men created and packaged. Anonymous in their home town, demi-gods of Europe. 

This set is all about this first wave of Detroit House, the birth of Techno and the artist/labels of 80's Detroit.

Just a quick 45min jam I did a little while ago after buying a batch of new music. It's my first ever dedicated electro set I've ever done, it's a different beast to tame.

I've started a series called TIME MACHINE where I will move back and forwards through time making 1hr mixes across the 5 decades of electronic music. I will use music in my digital or record collection and give bygone music a chance to be heard.
