In 1994 guitarist Wim Smeets and drummer Mark Kerkhofs, both coming from the alternative music scene in the city of Maastricht, decide to start a new band. 
Incorporating two band members from the metal scene, bass player Dieu Donné Jongen and singer Boy Kellenaers, Sons Of The Rain start to create a unique crossover. Mark’s introduction of oil barrels, sheets of iron and metal pipes as percussive instruments give the band a tough industrial sound. In 1999 Sons Of The Rain set out to record the follow up to their very well received self-titled debut album.  After touring relentlessly on the success of the debut album with its unique and razor-sharp industrial metal sound, the band were ready to reach out even further out into the world. Close to a month’s worth of pre-production recordings took place at Galaxy studios. Under a guiding hand from renowned Belgian musician/producer Luc van Acker (Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Arbeid Adelt!). The album itself was recorded at the Lachapelle studio in the Ardennes. ‘Easy Heavy Duty Commercial Automatic’ sees the band going more in the direction of a crossover between heavy alternative rock and metal. With a more open sparkling sound, but never losing the pounding impact of their debut. During the tour ensuing the recording the band split up due to artistic differences. It is decided the album will not be released.
Last year M-PX already released the self-titled debut album ‘SOTR’ to digital platforms. Now we’ve dusted off and remastered the original tape of Sons Of The Rains second album. We are proud to present to you for the first time ever ‘Easy Heavy Duty Commercial Automatic’ in all its glory.

Automatik was created by Fruhshopper as the soundtrack to the mini documentary: We Are Muziekgieterij - Still Life of a Music Venue during COVID-19 Lockdown. The video is the second in a two-part shout out to all our friends and colleagues working in the music business. The track emphasizes the stillness of the unused rooms that are normally very lively. Where the only sound to be heard is that of the of a lonely washing machine churning in an empty basement.
