Taking over a packed dancefloor from Marcia, Alena brought it! Mixing stone-cold classics with those super rare cuts, whilst keeping the energy high was a joy to witness. Special Touch, Doug Shorts, WAR, Mighty Peacemakers, Billy Lamont, Roy Ayers all sounded so so heavy but Imagination by BB&Q Band blew us away!

Kicking off with Sara’s set. Super soulful, super smooth. It was beautiful to see the room fill up as Sara played tunes from the likes of LTD - Love To The World and Milton Wright – Keep It Up, before seamlessly transitioning into breakbeat, soulful house, and up-tempo tracks. A really well-crafted set.

Next up, Femi Fem took over with a fire edit of Fela Kuti that we can't get enough of, then moved through an killer mix of funk, soul, and disco. Proper warehouse party vibes all night long. Highlights included It’s Alright Now by Eddie Harris and I Believe In Miracles by the Jackson Sisters— which, despite having heard countless time before, had an extra spark when dropped at just the right moment.

Latin Music Special! Live recording from The Jago - 7th March, 2025

Miles Away Records are proud to introduce a brand-new, fresh out the bag, never before released piece of music to our catalogue. 
In September 2024, Rob J Madin DM’d us with a SoundCloud link featuring a collection of instrumental covers he had created. Immediately drawn in, we loved both the musical approach to these covers and the fact he tastefully selected these tracks to cover. Following up, we asked Rob, an accomplished musician, if he had any original compositions in a similar style.
The result is "MONSTRO", six instrumental slabs of jazz-funk heat! Made in Sheffield. Listeners can expect spacey synths, silky electric pianos, and irresistible hooks. Think BADBADNOTGOOD meets Mildlife with a side plate of Herbie Hancock. From the kick-your-door-down energy of "Callisto Disco" to the slow-burning allure of "Heartacher” and optimistic sunny day feel of “Cherryade” to the fully grown earworm synth lines of “Bouquet Garni”. 
The collection features two cover versions: Michael Miglio's "Never Gonna Let You Go" and Rupa's "Ayee Morshume Be-Reham Duniya." Both are rare early-80s gems, wonderfully reimagined by Rob.
"MONSTRO" will be officially released on May 16th, 2025, with the track "Never Gonna Let You Go" now available as the first single. To celebrate the release of “MONSTRO”, Rob and his band will perform a special one-off show at Sidney & Matilda in Sheffield on the release date.

It was 50 years ago that a talented local musician named Lamont Butler started to create an album that would combine love, happiness and joy. Lamont’s only official album release It’s Time For A Change has been very popular for record collectors around the world but never saw the wider success it truly deserved.

Born 1949 in Louisville, Kentucky; Lamont Butler was drawn to music and dance from the very beginning. He was the son of a well-known gospel, blues and R&B singer and pianist Clifford Butler Sr, receiving an early education in what’s required to be a touring musician. It quickly became apparent that Lamont had a wonderful voice and was pushed to the front despite no being fully confident yet of his singing ability. Lamont performed on the gospel circuit for a number of years cutting his teeth with groups such as The Enterprise, The Dynamics and The New Beginnings eventually going solo with Lamont Butler and The Spirit of Truth.  

It was whilst he was singing and performing during this period that he started to write his own songs and think about putting together an album bringing together all of his influences from R&B, jazz, soul and of course gospel. The result is very raw, almost low-fi sound of It’s Time For A Change, released nearly 10 years after Lamont started to pen the first tracks and it gained relative success. He toured the album around churches in Louisville with tracks such as Love One Another, Time For A Change and Ungodly War quickly becoming firm favourites within the churches of Louisville.

Miles Away Records are pleased to working with Lamont and to be issuing a long overdue album reissue of It’s Time For A Change on LP and CD. Remastered with care by Nick Robbins at Sound Mastering and complete with in-depth sleeve.
