Many talented DJs have helped put San Francisco on the map but none more influential than Pete Avila. He is the Bay Area's original house DJ and has helped define what the world knows as the San Francisco sound. His music speaks with reverence, fueling his image as a house music guru and advocate of spiritual house. In 1991, Pete Avila pioneered the Bay Area's first house mix show on 106 KMEL "The Underground" & went on to create "Your Mama's House" with fellow DJ David Harness & MC Foxxee. Your Mama’s House took the music industry by storm and was the first to introduce house music to the masses. At a time when hip hop and R&B dominated the airwaves, dance music was practically non-existent and a dirty word amongst industry executives who controlled the US radio market! For close to a decade, Your Mama’s House undeniably helped elevate DJ culture in the bay area but more importantly, gave many talented DJ’s and artists from around the globe a platform to promote their music and talent in the US. 

The show’s 10 year success opened many doors for Pete in the music business. Pete attributes his success as an International DJ to mentors like Tony Humphries, Louie Vega, David Morales, Roger S & Frankie Knuckles who helped Pete achieve global recognition. Pete credits Danny Tenaglia for giving him his first big DJ break when he asked Pete to play with him at Twilo NYC on one of the world’s premiere sound systems. Some of the highlights of Pete’s career was performing at Subliminal Party for Erick Morillo, Sound Factory & Limelight in NYC.
Pete has played the international club circuit performing in Mykonos at Cavo Paradiso, Warsaw Ballroom in Miami for the Winter Music Conference, Breakfast at Tiffany's in Milan & The Funky Chicken Club in Koln Germany.The list of clubs and events he’s played at in the Bay Area is impressive reads from A to Z. He’s  held long-time residencies at legendary clubs like The End-Up, Fag Fridays, 1015 Folsom, Universe, Colossus, Ruby Sky, Club DV8 & Release. As a promoter, Pete has been the creative force behind legendary parties like Osmosis, Twirl, Carefree, Toon Town & Nature. He has performed for crowds as big as 15,000 people at outdoor festivals like Cyberfest, Organic, Funky Tekno Tribe & 3D in Singapore. 

Pete has been recognized for his talent & proud recipient of Bay Guardian's Goldy Award for music. He also received a Global DJ Mix Awards and above all believes in giving back to his community.He’s donated his time and talent to support and help organize large events like Pride in SF, LA, Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose, Santa Fe & Albuquerque that benefit AIDS organization across the globe.Toddy Terry provided Pete the opportunity to remix a track from his album fulfilling his dream to work with legendary divas Martha Wash & Jocelyn Brown. Jay Sinister from KOT commissioned Pete to remix the international club smash ‘Finally’ featuring Julie McKnight for Defected Records in the UK. Pete landed a coveted position as in-house producer for Arista records which led to remix projects for artists like Usher, Pink, Patti Labelle, Boyz II Men & TLC. More recently, Pete did work for multi-platinum Def Jam artists Neyo, Patti Labelle and Rihanna!
