Takahama Kyoshi was a Japanese poet active during the Shōwa period of Japan. He was the editor of the haiku magazine Hototogisu (previously edited by Shiki), where he promoted a more traditional style of haiku, as opposed to other popular schools which did not follow the pattern of seventeen syllables at that time.

Kyoshi also highlighted the symbolic function of the kigo (the seasonal reference), even though the more modern trends were already tending towards seasonless haiku.

On the Queen Claire the rum flowed
The treasure was plentiful and the wind blew
across the waves, and kissed the air.
But the men. They knew something was coming.

It was thunder that woke him up, then suddenly the wind blew
coming up behind him like a cowardly sword and struck.
And The sails swelled and their attempt to resist sounded
like the scream of a woman in labor...

They ripped and opened apart like a curtain
on the sad, sad scene of a sky ready to fall.

From there he remembered nothing but screams and cutting rain,
messy footsteps and curses!
The creak of wood and above becoming below.

From the infinite black that was the sea,
fluorescent lights surrounded us and
the song of the sirens set our odyssey to music!

Spring

nebulous forms sometimes take place and sometimes don't. these kind of forces are dependent upon other forces which indicate the correct passageways for the christening of ideas. such parabolas are not easily schematised and not easily abstracted from a larger collection of ideas and their genesis pool. the archways and other ornamental features are only conceivable as semi immaculate, which is a betrayal of their form in multi-dimensional phase space.
