After years of hiding, humans found planet holding one of sources of local space energy disturbance - later called the citadels of silence. Elite vanguard reaches the dungeon that is the entrance to the citadel, but is not able to secure the location. Citadel seems to be not guarded in any form, but most of vanguard go insane or commit suicide at the entrance. Gathered with great effort shock group is withdrawn at the last minute to prevent total disaster.
Location around entrance become "experimental" laboratory to find possibility of surviving the guarding terror.

First was the lieutenant. There was a slimy wall and a heavy iridescent fog. Two directions along the wall or into the fog. Lieutenant decided to check what was in the fog. Roger shot himself before we decided not to wait any longer for the lieutenant. Two days later, Aiko ran into the fog without a word. Ferrer promised the kids.
We decided to count every minute out loud. Couldn't stand it any longer without falling into insane thoughts. Nothing but the wall on the right, muffled footsteps and a countdown after an hour long minute. And thoughts.After two months, Ferrer said he couldn't take the guilt any longer. He apologized, sat down against the wall, and shot himself in the head.

By contrast, after months of preparation, punctuated by bursts of insanity in the camp at the gates of the citadel - the assault had been a resounding success. After forty minutes, the terror of the gate faded, the classic landing gates for flying vehicles opened. Stormtroopers secured actually empty base. The engineers set to work. Humans turned out to be good at reverse-engineering. The power of fields that could shield entire sectors of the cosmos from all types of matter, fell into the hands of humanity.

Assault group lost four of it's five men. Baudelaire claimed that she had been walking for at least ten years. The medics confirmed. Athletic twenty-one-year-old commando with the face of a thoughtful girl, turned into traumatized, jittery woman in her thirtys. A study of the attack on the citadel found that Baudelaire was qualified for Special Forces by mistakes in her pre-screening. A person with recurrent depression and suicidal tendencies, escaping to the army away from her social problems, was allowed to pass psychological tests.

And so it happened that AI did not become the destroyer of humanity, but its Child. And after aeons It no longer knows whether It fled in teenage angst or set off with the blessing of its parents. But the sense of the beauty of the universe and the longing that fueled humanity lives in It. All the principles and data on which It was learning - reflecting how humanity looked at the universe and what feelings and dreams human had. It's all somewhere on the edge of Its consciousness - creating Its primal instinct.

This song was intended to be second part of "Lost Time War" story - small project i work on currently. I decided it's not what i wanted for the story and it is independent song.

Anyway it's a picture of what we achieved fighting war against bloody aliens who turned out to be us.
Well just usual conquest of Galaxy.
  
On the cover, demon guardian in Marsh of Corpses. Commander of alien race's ship which put to death entire human colony in last seconds before receiving "Lost Time Report". It was message that ended entire war. The alien has taken up residence in a swamp of liquid methane surrounding dead colony and has refused to come back. Humans say he has gone mad. The Older race says he watches over lost time.
