Sounds & Images (2017)

Guitarist/composer Giorgos Tabakis presents the EP "Sounds & Images", released by AUX. After the cds Inter Mundos (2015) and ViewPoint (2016), Giorgos's interest lies in the coexistence of several guitar soloists with different and personal approach, participating in compositions for guitar duos. 
Giorgos collaborates with Yiorgos Limakis, Thodoris Kotsifas and George Stavroulakis - 3 of the most innovative guitarists of his generation - and records one piece with each one of them. The outcome is characterized as a high quality guitar album, in which the 4 guitarists are performing with their most expressive way of playing. 
The recorded tunes ( "Aethereal", "Liquid", "Solid" ) were inspired by the three states of matter which form our world and everything in nature as well as by the legendary recordings of Ralph Towner and John Abercrombie duo, while keeping their own musical identity and expressiveness. 
From an aesthetic perspective, "Sounds & Images" is a combination of European jazz and creative music, with imaginative themes and solos and while some themes are arranged for 3 and 4 guitars (creating a bigger picture of a guitar ensemble), the main body is a guitar duo project defined by jazz music.

Aetherial (2017)

Light Vibrations is the 5th cd of guitarist/composer Giorgos Tabakis and is released by Aux Music (May 2018).

In this cd, Giorgos is collaborating with virtuoso Takis Paterelis (soprano sax) and percussion expert Giannis Papagiannoulis (drums/perc), two of the most innovative musicians in Greece.

The outcome of their partnership is a special European jazz trio that has quickly earned the respect and enthusiasm of the audience in their concerts.

Giorgos' main interest in this project was to search for ways of playing his 7-string guitar that can provide an expanded harmony, multirythms and motion at the same time, allowing him to be in a dynamic interaction with the sax/percussion in their beautiful way of playing, in a trio without a bass.

The five pieces included in Light Vibrations are categorized as a tonal contemporary European jazz influenced music, with interesting themes and structures, space for improvisation and personal aesthetic direction.

The Greek guitarist Giorgos Tabakis and the German clarinetist Rebecca Trescher join their common quest for music in an international duo with it's own distinct language and expressiveness. Having the multicultural collaboration as a basis, the two musicians are performing original compositions for clarinet / bass clarinet & 7 string guitar with innovative themes and improvisations combining contemporary classical music & european jazz with Greek folk elements and "led to be guided" by the inner language of creative music in an effortless music result.

About Giorgos
Giorgos Tabakis is an Athens based guitarist, composer and band leader. He is one of the most productive and innovative musicians of his generation in the European jazz area. "Godin Guitars" endorsed him in 2015 with its first 7string guitar model, Multiac 7string guitar Grand Concert. Since then he has recorded 7 personal CDs for solo 7 string guitar and small ensembles with some of the most important musicians of the jazz and creative music scene. Giorgos is in a continuous search for different guitar approaches and ways of expressiveness through his work on 6, 7 and 8 string guitars.His interest in the spectrum of creative contemporary music led him to compose and perform live in venues and festivals music for contemporary dance, theatrical plays, documentary, silent movie, action painting projects etc.

About Rebecca
Rebecca Trescher (born 1986 in Tubingen) is a German based freelance clarinetist, composer, bandleader and conductor. She is one of the most interesting visionary of theEuropean jazz scene, especially with her ENSEMBLE 11. In January 2019 she will produceher fifth album as a leader with the Bavarian broadcast station. Rebecca received many prizes and scholarships (e.g. Artist in residence in Paris, Cité internationale des arts,Bavarian state award of arts 2017). Furthermore, she composed for a 120-minute silent movie (October, Sergei Eisenstein), commissioned by the city of Nuremberg. At the moment she is composing for the Siemens Symphonic Orchestra Erlangen. She has a Master of Music degree in Jazz clarinet and composition. She is a member of different small ensembles and is looking forward to the new duo project with the guitarist Giorgos Tabakis, a new inspiration and exchange of musical languages, between contemporary classical music and jazz.
