I wrote this waltz to commemorate the marriage of my elder son Henry to his beautiful fiancee Miss Hannah Beardsell on Saturday 30th March 2019 at St Mawes Castle, Cornwall. I was privileged to be accomapanied at the event (though not on this recording) by world class harp player Elizabeth-Jane Baldry. Enjoy

Henry & Hannah's Wedding Waltz

Although the idea for this song has been trundling around in my head for several years, it was 2020 that brought it to life. The robin is such a feisty, determined bird, and it struck me that, like so many facing difficulties and uncertainty, it battles through, “bloodied but unbowed”, as it says in the final verse, from the poem “Invictus”. It’s as if it wears the blood on its breast as a badge of its defiance. 
I feel stronger when I sing this song, and it stirs hope in my heart.
