“my music is horrible but I’ll spiral into depression if I don't make it”

this is...tojo is a self-renowned electronic artist who has been making music on his phone since middle school. He specializes in sampling and making statements about his mental health through the medium of music. He refuses to learn any instrument or software program and has tasked himself to make music specifically on his phone making his art much more unpolished. 

In 2020, he fell in love and released his debut EP “As I Am Now” featuring samples from Ecco2K, Daniel Caesar, and many more. Actual artist Gianni Grecco called it his least favorite electronic piece of work by a Hispanic artist. 

After a mental breakdown stemming from a recent breakup, this is...tojo under the name DEATHTOJO released his second EP 2 years later. 2022’s “I Can’t Wait Until Tojo Dies” is a suicide note in music form sampling a variety of artists while hiding messages about his mental breakdown through the lyrics or artists that he sampled for the project. It is also a conceptual EP with the character of Starchild contemplating suicide and being reborn through music. The leading single ‘Diet Soda’ had been sitting on his phone for years and was named 2022’s stupidest electronic dance song by HuntX magazine. 

In 2023, DEATHTOJO changed his name to this is...tojo and went back to the original app that he used for his first two ep’s. With a newfound appreciation for music, he put out The Computers Are Coming! A celebration EP for bettering his mental health. The leading single Echo98.1 had been a concept for months and lead to the creation of the entire ep. The YouTube version of the EP sampled assorted 70’s radio commercials before or after almost every song. Kinda cool if you ask me. ‘The Computers Are Coming’ was named the 201st most okay electronic EP by Kenji Music.com

In June 2023, this is...tojo premiered his first ambient single Sunday Pingpong. This is his first single using a new app. Sunday Pingpong was then announced to be only one song off of an upcoming fully ambient EP called ‘Music For Science Museums’ inspired by the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and Aphex Twin. this is…tojo, once the EP was completed promised a documentary adaptation of the EP late 2023. Katherine Maus heard a preview of the EP and said I quote, “I'd rather kill myself than hear that again” 

this is tojo, during the wait for the finished Science Museum EP and documentary, released endcreditsep. Building off of the final dance-electronic-ambient hybrid End Credits, tojo remixes three wildly opposing sounding tracks. Kimmy says, “I think it's pretty neat but this is...tojo is kinda weird.”
