For its last release of 2023, When We Dip XYZ is proud to present a three track remix pack of Motip White’s ‘Clean the Turbines’ EP. 

Kicking things off is Atish, chopping and pitching Motip White’s vocal from ‘What Do You Want Me to Say.’ The Manjumasi label-boss complements the track with a rolling bassline, glitches hitting left, right, and centre, and the gritty bass fills from the original. 
 
Also taking on ‘What Do You Want Me to Say,’ Gespona & Djolee craft huge percussion rolls and manipulate White’s layers and textures. The two artists, who have just launched their own label ‘Rummel,’ leave room for the memorable hook halfway through, which then recedes in favour of the heavy drums. 

Third up is Meera with her take on ‘Clean the Turbines.’ Faithful to her style, which has recently been showcased on VOD and Crosstown Rebels, she opposes a subby kick with a tempest of hats & shakers, harmonically guided by a light piano. The Norwegian producer keeps on building the energy, surprisingly introducing her own vocals and an acid layer on the arp as the tune unfolds.

La música tradicional romaní es una expresión vibrante y diversa que refleja la rica historia, la identidad cultural y las experiencias de este pueblo nómada de origen indio, disperso por Europa y otras partes del mundo durante siglos. Esta tradición musical, transmitida principalmente de forma oral de generación en generación, es un testimonio de la resiliencia y creatividad de la comunidad romaní frente a la marginalización y las adversidades.

Un elemento distintivo de la música romaní es su variedad regional, influenciada por los países donde las comunidades se han asentado. Por ejemplo, en España, los gitanos han dado vida al flamenco, un género apasionado que combina cante, baile y guitarra con raíces profundas en Andalucía. En los Balcanes, la música romaní se caracteriza por ritmos complejos y el uso de instrumentos como el clarinete, el acordeón y el violín, mientras que en Europa del Este, como en Hungría y Rumania, se destacan las melodías virtuosas del violín y el címbalo. A pesar de estas diferencias, hay hilos comunes: improvisación, emotividad y una conexión íntima con la vida cotidiana, desde celebraciones hasta lamentos.

La música romaní no solo es arte, sino también un medio de resistencia y supervivencia. Los músicos romaníes, a menudo excluidos de otras profesiones, han utilizado su talento para ganarse la vida, actuando en calles, bodas y festivales. Esta práctica ha permitido que su música influya en otros géneros, como el jazz (pensemos en Django Reinhardt, guitarrista gitano que revolucionó el jazz manouche) o la música clásica, inspirando a compositores como Liszt y Brahms.

En esencia, la música tradicional romaní es un mosaico de sonidos y sentimientos que encapsula la historia de un pueblo errante. Su legado perdura como un puente entre culturas, un recordatorio de la capacidad humana para transformar el dolor en belleza y la diversidad en armonía.

Release text:
After OW001's maiden-voyage into outer space, Outworld now takes us to the underworld courtesy of label head Klangkuenstler's 'Balthazar' EP, which marries raw peaktime-power with claustrophobic-come-ecstatic atmospheres, served over the course of four tracks.
The devil's dancing on the title-track: as serrated off-hits shatter on tough kicks, a wicked saw-riff begins to drill through the drums as if summoned from Hades. In contrast, the bass-driven body and pulsating sinus-tone of 'Zorn Amons' grind like teeth as they build in tension. A moment of illusive release comes with 'Das Schattenreich', on which the reverberating, fast-paced percussion
runs for escape, hunted fiercely by a meaty trance-lead. On 'Jenseits', though, Klangkuenstler pulls us back into purgatory, showcasing a dramatic end to a carefully crafted and devilishly fun EP of rough club bangers.
