The "Salve Regina" is the famous prayer "Hail, holy Queen" which is commonly prayed at the end of the Holy Rosary and is traditionally sung after Compline from Saturday before Trinity Sunday until the Friday before the first Sunday of Advent. It is attributed to Bl. Hermannus Contractus (aka Hermann of Reichenau) in the 11th century, but in its current form comes from the great Abbey of Cluny in the 12th century.

Salve Regina Solemn tone - Gregorian Chant

This is the famous prayer to St Michael the Archangel, sung in Latin plainchant. The text was composed by Pope Leo XIII in the 19th century, while the melody was composed by an oblate of the Benedictine monks of Our Lady of Guadalupe monastery in Silver City, New Mexico. The harmony is by my good friends, Harpa Dei, used with their permission.

Inspired by the historic Velvet Revolution from November 17–December 29, 1989, Army of Peace stands as an anthem and testimony. The song is shaped in part by images and words from LIFE magazine’s article, The People Rise (The Birth of Freedom, 1990 issue), showing the major sociopolitical confrontation. Crowds filled Prague’s St. Wenceslaus Square, candles in hand, facing armed forces with nothing but courage and hope. And yet, it was everything! Army of Peace remembers the people armed not with weapons, but with truth.

Responding to the rally of reform on November 17, 1989, President Václav Havel resolutely declared, “They had arms. We had the truth.” Havel’s words inspired the lyrics for the chorus of Army of Peace (set in the lyrics with a comma to carry the phrase forward musically). And one verse calls out, “Let true peace now reign.” ~ for to live faithfully the Gospel in freedom and solidarity remains a holy struggle.

The song’s inspiration and heartbeat reflect the Gospel call to overcome violence with love. “They had arms. We had the truth,” affirmed Václav Havel, capturing the spirit of a movement that resisted oppression without surrendering to fear and indifference. The collapse of the communist government soon followed. Elected by unanimous vote of the Federal Assembly, Havel became President on December 29, 1989.

Twenty years later, on the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, Delaney was humbled to speak with President Václav Havel as he recuperated in Prague’s Motol University Hospital ~ a providential moment, echoing the freedom the Revolution had secured. Havel requested that Army of Peace be mailed to him. An unexpected honor! Elated, Delaney respectfully sent the song as a personal offering of solidarity. ERMMedia prepared the CD with a special dedication cover, and Delaney hoped the music and lyrics would be a meaningful blessing.

Army of Peace affirms that in the face of oppression, God’s Word is both shield and hiding place, and that truth, rooted in love, remains the most powerful force for freedom.

Set for solo, choir, and orchestra, the music carries a steadfast pulse. Verses move with martial resolve, balanced by lyrical lines that recall the courage and the march of hope that will not be silenced.

The music marches forward with undaunted resolve rather than clashing swords, embodying the strength that comes from moral courage and faith. It is a call to stand firm without violence, to confront injustice with the shield of God’s promises, and to believe that peace is not the absence of conflict, but the triumph of truth.

The Apostles' Creed is the one recited at the beginning of the Rosary, *not* the Nicene Creed normally used during Mass (however, the Apostles' Creed is sometimes used at Mass during Lent/Easter). This prayer is also called "The Symbol of the Apostles" - in Latin, "Symbolum Apostolorum" or "Symbolum Apostolicum."
