Logline: When the two sides of the coin
of "choice" clash

Treatment: At a family dinner, Jerita (30) reveals to her grand-children-demanding parents of her decision to remain childless. What started off as a lovely evening of breaking bread and catching up turns into a clash of generations. What is the reality of choices? What informs them? And who do they affect?

About the project

Chaguo (Swahili for Choice) is a story
centred around a 27 y.o lady's decision
not to have children and how that
decision is perceived and affects her
parents.
Music has not only been utilized to
create and set the mood of the play but
also as the voice of the father to
represent the complexities of African
speech which is often decorated with
sayings and proverbs. To achieve
distance and movement, the team
played around with various mic/actor
positions. The production explored the
use of echo to transport the listener into
the thoughts of the actor while
employing spoken word performance,
dialogue and music to tell the story.
