In A Million Places At Once

"Hazy Past" is a small release and pairing of two new songs which will be included in a future full length record I've been working on in recent months. For this batch of tracks I'll be hand-dubbing and self-releasing a limited number of cassettes (30 in total) which will be available for purchase online soon.

Summer days and nights,  and warm sounds are conjured up on this Alt/Country/Folk tune. Its timeless elements are very apparent and subtle at the same time. Smooth and delicious. The voice, lyrics and delivery of Tara Vandevender Scheyer are pure and her seasoned story-telling create visuals to go along with the cozy sounds.  This recording was originally released in 1994 on Pound Records, an imprint of Neurodisc Records, Inc.

Born Joy Dead is the solo project of Brisbane musician Ben Dalton, best known as bassist for Hungry Kids of Hungary. 

Life after two successful albums, world touring, numerous sold out shows and notable appearances at festivals such as Splendour in the Grass, Groovin’ the Moo, Pink Pop (Netherlands) and Falls Festival was a sobering experience. However, the unanticipated solitude provided the perfect opportunity for Ben to hone his craft as an independent musician. 

Drawing inspiration from the likes of XTC and Elvis Costello, Born Joy Dead points to a world where warm and strangely synthetic soundscapes are met with stimulating language, vibrancy and colour. The first release ‘Upside Down, Inside Out’ combines the eccentricities of 1970’s new wave with the boldness of modern experimental pop, and was recorded with local producer Sean Cook (Big Scary, Velociraptor).

Things Happen

Remember the instrumental album that Mac DeMarco pushed out early July? Written and recorded in his bedroom across just four impressive days, we are merely lo-fi paupers whilst Mac wears the crown. 

We thought it’d be great fun to get some AIH friends and family in to have a play and complete the tracks by adding their own vocal & melody ideas. Initially wanting to match the four-day window that Mac achieved the process in, it turned out this was next to impossible .. 

HOWEVER! Everyone managed to finish their takes and have done a great, great job. Come roll in the disco fusion of Shunkan vs Mac on Hachiko, the grizzle fuzz of pet cemetery’s Fish Terry or Early Ghost’s paranoid deprecation on closer Special K. 

Mac gave it away for free and so are we. Enjoy!
