Jelle Van Giel's Close Distance Band - The Secret Of Bluebell

Wasted Energy Record Factory. Under this working title we began an adventure in the year 1993 that – against all initial expectations – until today plays an essential role in Belgian jazz history until today. What originally began as one-off support of Bruges pianist Kris Defoort, developed into a renowned label, which currently (2013) accommodates over 250 musicians.

Over the past two decades we invested in and offered opportunities to Belgian jazz talent. Several very young jazz musicians thus developed together with us into established names in the jazz landscape. A glance at the almost endless list of musicians who already appeared on our label, reads like an encyclopaedic overview of Belgian jazz between 1993-2016.

Thanks to the financial support of the Flemish Community we can currently continue to play this supporting role and thus – adverse to any commercial concession to the artistic identity and integrity of our label and our musicians – help ensure the future of our beloved Belgian jazz scene. A scene filled with creative ingenuity and guts, experiment and foundation.

Our catalogue attempts to be the result of this colourful hotchpotch of national jazz.
