The lyrics to this ever popular Christmas carol were written by English composer George Ratcliffe Woodward (1848–1934). It was first published in 1924 in his The Cambridge Carol-Book: Being Fifty-two Songs for Christmas, Easter, And Other Seasons.

This particular arrangement was arranged by David Willcocks and can be found in 100 Carols For Choirs.

Amici Cantores was established in Liverpool, UK, in 2016. Starting life as a 4 part ensemble we have since increased our number to 5 and hope to expand further.  

Three of our members performed in the 2008 Holocaust Memorial Service at the Liverpool Philharmonic, one of whom was also a duettist alongside the formidable talent of Tayo Aluko and other great artists. 

A.C. performs pieces from across the centuries and genres, from Morley and Bennet to Mendelssohnn and Vaughan-Williams and also living composers.

Classical Soprano. Currently training with Kendal Bradshaw, I have a long history of music and singing in choirs but a couple of years ago decided to undertake formal vocal training. Around 18 months ago I became part of a new small vocal ensemble Amici Cantores. In 2008, I performed at the Holocaust Memorial service as both a choral performer and a soloist alongside Tayo Aluko.
