Le deuxième opus est dédié à Grenoble et présente 15 producteurs grenoblois, depuis la musique Roots jusqu'au Stepper en passant par le pur Dub de Sound System. Vous pouvez également découvrir, sur la page dédiée sur notre site internet, la liste des Sound Systems locaux ainsi qu'un court historique du Dub à Grenoble.

Subsquad Prod present the second part of our serie of compilation, the CITY SQUAD. Each part will present the dub makers of a city (and its surroundings) through a compilation of exclusive tunes that will be available in free download.

This second part is dedicated to Grenoble and presents 15 producers from this city, from Roots music to Stepper. You can also discover, on our website, the list of local Sound System and a short historic of Dub history in Grenoble.

Originally from the US and now residing in Spain, a musical veteran with a career spanning more than a decade, it's safe to say Bukkha runs things when it comes to fuelling sound systems. On top of his long-standing involvement in the thunderous Moonshine Rec. discography, the prolific artist maintains a consistent record of top-shelf releases on numerous famed record labels within the global melting pot of Dub-influenced dance music, including System Music, Dub-Stuy, Lion Charge, and so on. His 'In Roots Vol. 1' debut LP features seven talented guest artists from around the globe, the extended Dub family in full force and effect - connected to Bukkha through previous projects, shared tours and overall engagement in the scene. The symbiotic nature of the collaborations can be heard and felt as big stacks of speakers lend their voice to the musical message. Rebellious sounds for the healing of the nation. In a conscious stepper style, the release marches through original future classics - whether instrumental or led by the Rastafarian teachings of Mowty Mahlyka, anthem brass melodies by JahWind All-Stars, harmonica meditation by Hazeldub or Don Fe's notoriously brilliant flute virtuosity. With true to the roots delay and reverb effects in the original Dub fashion, the album pays tribute to the technique pioneered by the likes of King Tubby, nothing less than a next-generation torchbearer. Liondub joins the international dots once again between Jamaica & the UK by bringing together legendary Reggae singer Johnny Osbourne with top UK producers Selecta J-Man & Gray out of the Born On Road camp. Back in 2013, Johnny delivered a sound killing medley of his classic “Rock It Tonight” hit for Liondub, which Marcus Visionary remixed to great acclaim.           A weekend among many of them. Louis, Tom and Killian joined to spend time together. To make music. This time, its in the middle of Burgundy that they settled their equipment. An ephemeral studio, in the very center of an old stony home. That's exactly when they came up with the diptyque ”First Thing". At the crossroads of future dub, reggae and trip-hop, First Thing is filled with aerial and inspiring melodies, cleverly mixed with a steady bassline composition.

          Un week end parmi tant d’autres, Louis, Tom et Killian se sont
retrouvés pour passer du temps. Et pour composer. Cette fois, c’est en
plein cœur du climat bourguignon qu’ils installent leur matériel. Un
studio éphémère, au centre du salon d’une vieille maison de pierres. Ils
reprennent les basiques.
Trois amis, des claviers, des guitares, un ordinateur. Un micro. Un feu
de cheminée. L’automne. Sumac Dub and The Maucals, qui n’en sont
pas à leur coup d'essai, composeront alors plusieurs titres. Deux
d’entre eux sont sur le point de vous être révélés.
First Thing, titre éponyme du projet, est à écouter comme il a été
peint: en éloge de la simplicité. Celle du choix d’être au même endroit,
au même moment.
Lavender, le second, est un cri d’espoir, un appel à se retrouver toutes
et tous. Pour replacer l’entraide au centre des relations humaines,
parfois faussées par le rapportaux nouvelles technologies.
Comme Sumac Dub and The Maucals, ces deux objets sonores sont
inextricablement mêlés. Ils forment un diptyque inclassable dont les
mélodies planantes transportent par-dessus les bocages. Par dessus
les forêts. Et quand le savant mélange rythmique-basse vous aura
happé dans une marche assurée, vous arriverez sur le péron de cette
maison. Alors vous pourrez peut-être apercevoir, par la fenêtre, Sumac
Dub and The Maucals, qui vous invitent au plus près de leur histoire
commune. La musique.

About This Release:

An upbeat slice of reggae music which could as easily be filed under bubbling dancehall as it could solid roots rock reggae.

Veteran artist Sandeeno tells of his story in the sound business and it's an impressive account with his formative years spent in Jamaica sparring on sound systems with the likes of Garnet Silk, Papa San and Beenie Man as well as working with big name producers including King Jammy, Bunny Lee and Donovan Germain.

Mark Solution is on production and engineering duties, turning in a solid mix with a straight instrumental version and a stripped down dubwise to accompany Sandeeno's vocal piece.

This release has already enjoyed a wide range of promo support and is proving popular with both grass roots reggae sounds and national radio DJ's including Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 Music.
