Independent State of Mind are a two man wall of sound; a rhythmic explosion of barbwire melodies, twisting strings and splintering beats on didjeridu and guitar.

ISoM create instrumentals inspired by historical and current events, from the Peasants Revolt of 1381 to the Doomsday Clock and the Cuban Missile Crisis to the current government’s brutal social restructuring. In equal measure ISoM create music for the sake of it when the origins are a killer rhythm or riff and slap on a title like “Coyotito” or “Chicken Scratch”.
Teesside based Kev Howard (didjeridu) and Tim Coyte (guitar) have been playing music together in various forms for over twenty years, from busking in Europe to playing at festivals including Musicport (world music festival in Whitby). They finally got their act together in January 2018 to play the Lost in the Woods #9 festival. Since then ISoM have been working on a new E.P.
As individual musicians Tim Coyte and Kev Howard have been involved in numerous experimental projects. Kev performed in the rock opera “Shinning Isle” in Australia, as well as performances at international festivals in Germany, Holland and Finland. Tim worked with artist Kraig Wilson scoring a soundtrack for the art film “Discordia”, which was exhibited and screened at the Ottawa and Vancouver Film Festivals, New York City Fashion Week and the Cooper Gallery, Dundee.
