This song was born out of a resolve to just write something without regard for what other people thought; and thus, the first verse was born. I took an analogy I've used in the past to describe how I see God (and my relationship with/understanding of Him) and put it to music almost verbatim.

Then, I was stuck. I had put the whole of my thoughts on the subject into one verse and had nothing left to say.

So I took it to Stephan, a buddy and a brother and a killer of a songwriter and asked him if he had anything to contribute to it.
He came back with the rest of the song, and I realized in retrospect how much of my heart had yet to be unpacked by this simple analogy.

It's been said that books are best written in community. I now suspect the same of songs.

It's hard for me to get my head wrapped around why I like this song so much. Maybe it has something to do with resonating with the reminder that, through the daily challenges and the longer-term, more serious ups-and-downs, He's there, and He'll meet us when we're willing. It's a reminder that He is worthy of our praise, and we belong at His feet in every circumstance. 

It's so cool to live in the reality that I serve a God who wants me to know Him intimately. If it takes a day of tears, a week of anxiety, or a chapter of suffering to get my attention, so be it. He's worth it.
