Favorite Part Demo

Bob Porter sang this solo when we did a live show on WYEP-FM in Pittsburgh in June of 1990. He dedicated it to his daughter who was about to give birth. The track is a bit noisy, but it is the only recording I know of where Bob accompanies himself on guitar. This one may definitely be for fans only, but it is a unique moment at a unique time in our personal history.

01 Just My Imagination (Bob On Guitar, Solo)

This is a cover of Stormy Monday from the first Thin White Line gig with the Lineup that included Tim Dunleavy, Jason Bakes and Chris Yustinich with the long time partners Dale McQuade and the incomporable Robert Porter on vocals. The band is so new that Bob calls Tim by a former band members name before a guitar solo. This is mostly for the fans, recorded on a boombox and in classic fashion, the tape ends before the song. Enjoy.

01 Stormy Monday

We recorded this at Duquesne University, they had recently added a sound design major. We were Brian Cobb's class project. The songs came out well, and were the backbone of the Something Invincible release.

Magnet of Bad Luck

Towers Open Fire is a song that grabs me just as hard today as it did the first time I heard it. No recording does it justice, and there was nothing like witnessing this song live as Robert Porter poured his entire body and soul into it. RIP Mr. Porter. We'll take it from here.

Smokestack Lightning (LIve)

This song was originally released on the Welfare Dub Cassette. It is the title track of the remastered EP on iTunes and Amazon under the band name Thin White Line. With the opening lines, "Love and emotion begone. History repeats itself if we wait to long..." it's as pertinent now as it was 20 years ago. Another great Robert Porter song.

Superman and That Girl

This is Bob Porter's signature version of this Otis Redding tune. Many have tried, but few have made it their own the way Bob did. Wheteher ending the set, or ending the evening's performance, this song made it into almost every show's set list. I post this for the anniversary of his birth, to honor his memory and all the birthdays that we shared.

This song was part of our first release, Dock of the Bus Stop. We recorded this at a small studio on the edge of the city limits. It was one of my favorite recording sessions as it was the first time I realized how powerful our band was, and how great the legendary Robert Porter could be.
