Episode 98- Back again

Episode 99: Natasha Falconer

So here it is the official 100th episode of Creative Me Podcast. I thought I'd record a mini pod to reflect not only on the podcast, but also the friendships and other  opportunities and experiences this has led me to over the years. You'll notice that on our episode list that two part episodes count as one, hence why this is the "official" 100th episode, strange thinking I know 😅

On the 5th November I would have been doing this for four years. And to be honest I'm trying to figure out where that time has gone. Having a full time job, being a parent and husband, and pursuing a creative path out with all of this hasn't been easy. There have been times when I've questioned if all of this was feasible in the long term. But you have continued to support my efforts on various fronts and I absolutely appreciate this as this keeps me going. 

I'd love to tag every guest that has been on the podcast, but I don't think Instagram will let me 😂 
I'd like to thank you all for taking part in these conversations as it's definitely your stories that have allowed the podcast to grow.

Episode 100 Check In

We have partnered up with citymoves for the Dance Live Festival again to bring you a couple of podcast episodes with some of this year's performers. For today's episode I sat down with choreographer and performer Fleur Darkin. It was a great opportunity to find out a bit more about what motivates Fleur in her practice and where her work has taken her over the years, and the important conversations that has transpired from these experiences.

CityMoves Dance Live Festival- Jian Yi

In partnership with Applied Arts Scotland Creative Me Podcast brings you a four part series of podcasts with participants involved in The DISTANCE Project (Digital Immersive Technologies and Craft Engagement) which is a multi-stage project that offers makers opportunities to collaborate and to share experiences and objects in new and exciting ways through immersive digital technologies.

DISTANCE builds on the makers experiences of supporting international, cross-cultural residencies and the Scottish making community, including throughout lockdown periods during the global pandemic of 2020-21. It also supports our aims to promote sustainable making practices.

Throughout these conversations I spoke with a variety of participants from the craft and making community who took part in the DISTANCE Project and exploring their initial motivations to get involved in the project and how this has influenced their personal and professional development. Magdalene Odundo- North Lands Creative (Collect 2022)

Te Rongo Kirkwood North Lands Creative (Collect 2022)

In our third and final episode  in partnership with North Lands Creative featuring artists participating in this year's #Collect2022 International Art Fair for Modern Craft and Design. I sat down with artist Jahday Ford who is based in Manchester. 

Jahday's work specialises in hot glass and mould design. Using the combination of glass blowing and digital design the materiality of his glass objects changes radically, effectively bonding these two diverse fields. Episode 111 Danielle Jam

Episode 112 is with Constantine Zeus and his writing partner Emiliy-Rose. Constantine first featured on the podcast back in 2018 on episode 13 so it was great to get a catch up with him after all this time.

Episode 113 is with musician Matt Hickman better known as Brown Bear. I connected with Matt online two years ago, so it was great to finally record this conversation as we touched on quite a lot during this episode including how this all started for Matt, the current climate of the Scottish music industry, being a musician of colour in Scotland and the importance of identity and culture, and staying true to yourself.

Episode 118 Joseph Morgan Ceramics

After a short break we are back with a new Creative Me Podcast episode featuring artist Jenny Hood. I first met Jenny back in 2016 and not 2006 as I clumsily state in the intro. We talk about the Sustaining Life As A Creative Programme we participated in with the Creative Learning Team and it’s long lasting positive effects on us both as creatives.

We also delved into a discussion of how insects and animals have quite a unique impact on our day to day lives, being your own worst critic and learning to becoming more confident with your skills and abilities as a creative and embracing criticism both good and bad.

It also wouldn’t be a Creative Me Podcast if Ica didn’t get on to his social commentary box as we also speak about the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements and the responsibilities an artist has to discuss or reflect on such issues through their work. Episode 64 is the fourth part of my series of conversations with artists involved with this years Look Again Festival.  I sat down with artist Morag Myerscough to talk about her work for this years festival called Love At First Sight based at the Mercat Cross on Castlegate

We discussed how Morag came to be involved with Look Again, why she chose the title love at first sight and its connection to her parents chance meeting in Aberdeen. And how previous guest Jo Gilbert is also involved with the project.

We also spoke about Morag's own creative practice, career and motivations for what she does. I really appreciate Morag taking the time to come through to the Anatomy Rooms to speak with me. We covered quite a bit during our conversation, from early hip hop influences, his upcoming album Journey into Crazy that covers a lot of personal experiences for Rab.  We also spoke about how scottish hip hop is perceived in the rest of UK. The hip hop scene in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and the graft his putting in right now.
